Matt Platkin is the New Jersey Attorney General - for the entire state on behalf of the state. A state district attorney acts within the state on behalf on the local county or district (sometimes called a county attorney or prosecutor). The NJ U.S. Attorneys office is part of the federal system.

Not sure which one you’re asking about, but in general our legal system strives to ensure that citizens (as a whole) are represented in every level of government - from county/ district to state to federal.

Oh, that’s where the federal govt enters the picture, and the executive gets to decide who to appoint as the U.S. attorney in each *federal district* of each state (93 total). These are different from the state districts.
