this is a lot bigger problem than you might think, as someone who works in manufacturing, as *tons* of parts for equipment (like, say, european automobiles) are airfreighted overnight to the customer. this will really fuck up a lot of supply chains for parts.... www.nytimes.com/2025/08/22/b...

One of the unintended consequences of Trump's tariff bullshit, when you have like minded folks making decisions such as this with no input from adversaries this is what happens. The worse decisions made are made by like minded people..

Yeah, Trump is sodomizing the economy and cleaning his dick off on the constitution. 100% predictable.

I have to buy Apixaban (the generic of Eliquis) from a Canadian pharmacy because it isn't available in USA & I can't afford the brand name. Duties haven't been charged up til now because the value is less than $800. After 8/31 duties will be charged on everything. It's gonna be a mess!

Imagine the impact on medical equipment. MAGA loves talking about how Dems turned US into a third world nation. Good luck as you stroke out or wait extra months for your diagnosis bc the MRI and CAT scan machines are down for months waiting on a part. Trump didn't hear you say thank you.

I dunno, I think the fact that treaty bound national postal services will no longer deliver packages at any price or speed is alarming day to day, DHL will put the biggest hit on business for sure

Deutsche Post in this case is both a DHL brand and the national postal service of Germany because they privatized their postal service.

Please do not confuse the following with even the most tiny scintilla of support for the racist sex offender Donald Trump. I would literally crack out the champagne if a piano fell out of a window and landed on his insane fake-tanned head. Its deliberate, but was the other team who conjured it up.

Has he modified it to be worse? Yes. Will his implentation of it be worse than what DEMs proposed? Yes. Can we attribute it all to him? No. Who is really behind it all? The likes of Bezos, who want to sell us the exact same tat as you find on aliexpress and temu at 500% of the cost.

This is in response to the elimination of de minimis exemption, air freight shouldn't be affected because all air freight has to do real customs processing. DHL press release about the restrictions only mentions Deutsche Post and DHL Paket. group.dhl.com/en/media-rel...

Daniel Håkansson @danielhaknsson.bsky.social

I think you are right. The airfreight that is relevant for supply chains likely doesn't fit under de minimis exception today either. Still a mess but mostly for consumers and small businesses likely.

Erin @shiitake74.bsky.social

Yes but the reason for this specific stoppage is about the processing and reporting requirements rather than the tariff value, especially when it comes to the logistics workflow. No argument from me that it is overall very bad. Just specifically that air freight isn't affected, except for tariff.

Sky Marchini @sky.skymarchini.net

sure, although it's not clear to me if they'll setup the processing requirements given the relatively low value
