just building on this: under US law, one of these pictures shows a gun, and one of them does not.

"Too many have read theory, too few policy" is a good rule of thumb for lots of politics discourse.

even making guns harder to get would have a positive impact; maybe mass shootings would happen less if every potential shooter needed to borrow a drill press instead of going to the store

nobody said banning cigarettes was pointless because people could grow and dry their own tobacco plants.

at some point the 3d printed gun guys are just going to be doing regular gun manufacturing with PLA furniture

step 1 for 3d printing a gun that won't explode: buy the parts for a regular gun

Yep, and 3d printed lowers are getting pretty decent. Many decent 3d printed lowers could easily function through a mass shooting in most cases, and can be completed now for not a lot of money/time investment. Certainly things that are obtainable by these terrorgram creeps who spend all day online.

The main problem is heat. And that's only a problem after a lot of rounds in quick succession. People are modifying the uppers to dissipate heat faster for less heat soak into the lower.

I've long wondered how much of the count of firearms in the US is from people buying a ton of AR-15 lower receivers and nothing else any time Obama made the news.

I do appreciate you educating folks and having a genuine conversation on the topic, especially as to how these things are regulated. I respect what you have to say on the subject.

it's hard given like 6 separate people have accused me of supporting kid murder, but like, if we want to actually regulate these things effectively, we need to know what they are

You'll never disarm queer people. Its over. 3D printers are open source and 90% self-replicating.

I know you dont. A lot of people I know who volunteer in the Gun Violence Prevention area are also gun owners. We need to overhaul the regulations and reexamine how we want to classify these. Not just trigger pulls, not just magazine capacity, but including muzzle velocity. IMHO

How hard would it be to change the definition at the same time as starting to regulate more strictly.

Regulation is over. You lost. You will never succeed in disarming us, especially at a time where nazis are rampant and the government wants us dead. Pick a side. Nazis, or us.
