This is one of the tactics used by the gun nuts to shut down the conversation. "Oh, you're not an expert on the minutia of gun culture? Then you need to STFU."

Not sure if your response is in agreement, so apologies there. Sky is pointing out and advising that it’s worth it to know specifics when creating legislation and policies, and when talking to voters (not appeasing to gun nuts). Gun control is too broad, specifics work. More actionable!
Why does this person take pride in not understanding wtf they’re talking about? They do realize that you can only come up with an effective solution if you actually know what the fuck you’re talking about?
This is unrelated, but one of the interesting things I’ve found after moving somewhere rural is that there aren’t a ton of “normal seeming” gun courses. I live in one of the most traditionally gun owning states, with “ carry” nomenclature, but the only real firearm classes are pretty 1/
“Build a home arsenal and DEFEND YOUR PROPERTY” coded. For the rural (90%+ of the state is rural by any definition of rural) hunting ethos, I’d have expected a combined hunting & firearm training courses all over the place. Not really sure how I’m going to get started 2/
If for no other reason than to be able to take kids hunting in the future. The NRA seems to have killed normal, healthy gun culture?
hunting safety courses usually don't have that. but yeah, the culture has gone nuts. My wife was interested in a long range shooting course but .... yeah.
...you're a gun nerd now?
apparently, because I know the difference between semi-auto and auto, and own a shotgun, i'm not just a gun nerd, i'm a crazy nra gun nut
Can I be an NRA shill if I’m already on George Soros’ payroll as a crisis actor? Or will I get in trouble for moonlighting?
that's between you and the irs bub
Yes, the current AR-15 is a civilian semi-auto (still ~45 rounds per minute). But the original AR-15 was a military use select fire assault rifle (the precursor to the M-16). Also, a civilian AR-15 can be modified with a bump stock to enable it to approach full auto rate of fire (~400 rpm).
I was a member of the nra when I was 12 and was a rated shooter. The discussion of fire arms on this site is far more coherent than any pro-gun discussion I've seen on social media. You don't need to know how guns work to know our current gun policy is menacing society.
Agreed. BlueSky ppl at least attempt discussions about gun safety, while on NaziTwitter it’s just shitposting & disinformation.
technically thanks to an uncle, i am a lifetime member
What kind of shotgun? I’ve had a marine magnum 870 for a long time and just got a Beretta 1301 for after the government collapses next year, following the collapse of the bond market and the dollar.
Leave some NRA checks for the rest of us /s
Just wait until they start asserting the "AR" in ar-15 stands for "assault rifle."
Because it does. It's the 15th version of the Assault Rifle. Everyone knows this.
it's legal identifier is actually AR1.15
I can't tell if you're joking or not. At the risk of being a pedant who is oblivious to the joke, it was named the AR-15 because it was a Rifle made by ArmaLite (subsidiary of Fairchild Aircraft, the makers of the A-10). Or, the AR-10 was anyway which is the 7.62 version patented by the company.
Already blocked 2 of them who said that, seemingly without irony.
I think you could square this stuff by pointing out “understanding the policy implications of things you don’t really care about is part of the responsibility of self determination”
I have been saying this, all fucking day, but apparently that’s asking too much of the humble voter
damn this just made me realize the annoying AI discourse is here to stay forever
it really is as simple as "uhM ACtuALlY i wont be reading/learning im right"
‘Fraid so, you can ask chemistry enthusiasts also, there’s a whole bunch of bad regulation that stems from I don’t personally want to learn abt this
I’m agreeing and sharing a formulation that I think can effectively shut down such responses
anti-intellectualism but leftistly
lol, are you for real
unfortunately, yes and taking pride in not knowing things is the hallmark of anti-intellectualism, especially in the context of proposing legislation, which very much requires specific knowledge!
The anti-Intellectualism here is you insisting we have to let gun perverts gatekeep discussion of gun control.
This fucking place lmao
