Codepink’s stated position is that Taiwan should not buy arms to defend itself against a mainland attack, and that Taiwan has already lost the fight against the PRC. Is this the correct position? www.codepink.org/taiwanchina

i dont know who this @organizingpower.bsky.social jamoke is, but they are getting absolutely housed for that comment
i am really impressed with how lopsided the reaction is and it makes me wonder if a lot of people i don't like have left bluesky
I think the nuclear block allows us to keep social graphs more strongly separated on Bluesky. Like the parts of the Universe receding so quickly none of their light can make it here and vice-versa.
the thing is if like. five people like the cut of the jib and have me blocked, they should at least HAVE LIKES on their side, but this seems not to be happening
It's not the case here, but it would be interesting if blocked accounts didn't even show up in like counts
The ignorance is staggering, even at the level of basic fact. Tsai Ingwen's party won the presidential election and forms the current govt (though narrowly lost parliamentary majority). Polls show consistently Taiwanese people do not identify as Chinese. Who is paying these grifters?
Aw. It all makes sense. "Donations from Singham-linked groups, including the People's Forum, accounted for over $1.4 million in funding for Code Pink between 2018 and 2022, according to nonprofit record" Who is Singham? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neville...
👀👀
I wouldn't think so, no. Supporting Beijing's claims on Taiwan seems to me like supporting Argentine claims to las Malvinas/the Falklands. Whatever the history was, it's inappropriate now.
Given Taiwan history, I think Argentine had more legit claims than China over Taiwan.
I can buy this argument, but could you break it down? Are you basically premising on Taiwan’s long history as a rebel frontier in opposition to the imperial core (i.e., what it is today is what it’s always been)?
There was no Chinese people in Taiwan before the island being conquered by the Dutch. Yup : Europeans were in Taiwan BEFORE the Chinese, and it's the Dutch who encouraged Chinese migration in order to have some workforce.
I think Fujian / Hakka mainland migration predated Dutch? Am I mistaken?
Before the Europeans (Portugueses first, Dutchs after), the island was populated by Austronesian people. The ancestors of every islanders in the Indian and Pacific ocean came from Taiwan, thousands of years ago :
So, when did Taiwan came under chinese domination ? In 1662. It was merely used as rear base the various wars between Chinese dynasties, a colony. It only became a Chinese province in 1887. Then, in 1895, it's conquered by Japan.
So, it's a Chinese province between 1887 and 1895. 12 years. After that, it's a Japanese colony until 1945, for 50 years. It falls back into Chinese hands in 1945, with of course a mass slaughter of 30 000 Taiwanese people by the nationalist army...
And then in 1949, the divide between Taiwan and Communist China make it a de facto independent country. Nowadays, the native Taiwanese are a minority in the Island, most of the population descend from Chinese immigrants. But if Taiwan belongs to China, then the USA belongs to the United Kingdom.
If you’re the CCP or their supporters, and therefore an authoritarian bootlicker, yes
Codepink also def isn’t getting money from the PRC what are you talking about that’s crazypants, Neville Roy Singham isn’t real
yeah, like birds
Ok but birds actually aren't real
I know I want my leftist organization to be *checks notes* funded by a billionaire who is funneling money from a right-wing totalitarian dictatorship to suppress questions about an internal genocide. Wait...
Not to mention their horrid stance during syrian civil war....
Ah, sweet. *Nightmare Blunt Rotation*
the position of codepink is that imperialist war is bad, unless the traditional enemies of the united states engage in war, in which case the invaded nations should just give up
Btw check their replies absolutely coping and seething
Ick
Codepink would support nazi Germany against Poland and the Empire over the Rebel alliance.
"no to NATO expansion" My siblings in Christ, NATO is a voluntary organisation.
But that would imply that countries other than America have agency, which as we all know is simply impossible.
They’re going to be shocked if Trump pulls the US out of NATO and find out that… it’s still going to exist because Russia will still be a threat to their sovereignty.
At least Europe will be a bit more free to support European weapons R&D. I think money spent on EU made drones instead of US Trident doctrine would be nice
"Great powers" theory of geopolitics gets people killed. Neither Russia nor the US gets any say in the matters of any country, other than who they trade with (not even that, thanks WTO!) or voluntary agreements. Russia is entitled to NO influence, nor is the US. NATO will exist with or without.
Urgh...CCP shills...
Well see that's Sinophobia because Taiwan isn't really Chinese or something.
They hosted a webinar on Taiwan and didn’t invite any Taiwanese people. But they made sure to invite Carl Zha, a self-hating American citizen who regularly reposts on his Twitter account a video of some asshat singing a song called “Bomb Taiwan”
How about we do the inverse of what they say: we isolate and boycott China and arm Taiwan to the hilt so any invasion attempt ends in failure
Code pink sucks shit
It's only imperialism if it's done by Western Europeans and their friends. Otherwise, it's just sparkling liberation of the oppressed proletariat from the running dogs of capitalism
I remember seeing one of the more recent posts from that popular "Kirby" account that basically says that they acknowledged what the USSR did during WWII but that they somehow defended it, acting like their actions were somehow "moral" but the Nazis weren't.
How people like this can act like only their team should be allowed to commit war crimes just because their team claims to be "communist" is beyond me. They're just as hypocritical as the far-right conservatives that they claim to oppose.
Chomsky's legacy
Getting into public view by saying the Iraq war is bad and then saying that America is always in the wrong. If America was attacked it would be wrong to fight back because that's warmongering
it is unfortunate that America's conduct in Iraq was so bad that it lent legitimacy to such people
kind of a big reason not to do it in the first fuckin place, but here we are
The second order effects of the Iraq war were fringe people getting closer to the mainstream and people believing them because reality was stupider then a lot of conspiracy theories
“and it makes shit-libs furious” Same types argued against Hillary while downplaying SCOTUS appointments in 2016 (main reason behind most of this mess we’re in now). They’ve been wrong too and continue to think their strategy has mass appeal. Trump and company smiling at it tells a different story.
I mean they're just going to tell you "yes" and both honestly believe it because self-determination is meaningless to them and also they think it's funny
