There was no Chinese people in Taiwan before the island being conquered by the Dutch. Yup : Europeans were in Taiwan BEFORE the Chinese, and it's the Dutch who encouraged Chinese migration in order to have some workforce.

So, when did Taiwan came under chinese domination ? In 1662. It was merely used as rear base the various wars between Chinese dynasties, a colony. It only became a Chinese province in 1887. Then, in 1895, it's conquered by Japan.

And then in 1949, the divide between Taiwan and Communist China make it a de facto independent country. Nowadays, the native Taiwanese are a minority in the Island, most of the population descend from Chinese immigrants. But if Taiwan belongs to China, then the USA belongs to the United Kingdom.
