The Wonder of Tolkien @tolkienwonder.bsky.social

They had no real clue that what they were making was going to embed so deeply into people's imaginations, hearts and lives. Good stories have the power to do this - and these films captured the power of Tolkien's world.

The movies are good, but are not Tolkien's work. It's Peter Jackson's version. He created characters, inflated the roles of some and not a single character was true to Tolkien's vision, but flawed and weak. I hated the way he portrayed Aragorn, Faramir & Sam. Read the books.

They had every clue. Tolkien and LOR were world famous and hugely popular decades before the films were made. It was the casts and crews of "Star Wars" and "Alien" and "Halloween" who did not imagine that what they were making was going to embed so deeply into people's imaginations.

I think they knew precisely what their impact would be. They talk about this extensively in the Appendices.
