Astronomy people, I need help. We were looking at the meteor shower, and saw this one object slowly drifting through the sky. It looked like you could see an electromagnetic field around it, so it was way bigger than the stars around it. What did we just see? #Meteorshower

A picture of the night sky, with a large bright object in the middle. The object looks like a star with a large amount of particles forming the shape of an electromagnetic field around it. A zoomed in picture of the same object before it vanished behind a row of trees, the cloud around it less well defined in this shot.

There was a rocket launch today not long ago, likely going to be related to that if you're in or near florida www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rft...

You'd be surprised, at the altitude the second stage kicks in you might be able to see it low on the horizon like that. Especially since it's so high, it's still in sunlight while you're seeing dusk. We've had a few like that on the West Coast.

No this appears to be confirmed. There were reports of this over PA, and news in Harrisburg is reporting this as the ULA Vulcna test flight.

Yeah, seems to be the case. Crazy that something from a launch that far away was visible up here, but the more I think about it the more it makes sense. I’m a little disappointed it wasn’t something natural, but it’s also kind of cool in its own right.

I've seen a lot of posts about that happening. In several places. There's a lot of weird theories about them too. Last one was claimed to be a booster off a falcon mission.

Definitely looks like a rocket launch to me. I’ve seen a few like that. They’re spectacular!

Our best guess was that it was a meteor coming basically head on, so we were seeing it break apart from the front, but we’re not sure.

That's really cool! Shame there is no video. It could have been a plasma sprite, but I am unaware if those can move like that.

It was visible to the west and disappeared after slowly moving north from the view point of the Lake George area in New York
