I’ve seen some concern going around about this new variant but it’s doesn’t appear to be more dangerous or infectious than previous strains

There's not evidence that it's more dangerous (or less dangerous), but the growth internationally suggests it has some advantage over other strains (could be more infectious, could be better at getting around vax/infection immunity). www.abc.net.au/news/health/...

In the paragraph directly above the one you screenshot it says there is concern about increased transmissibility. This tracks with increased cases and hospitalizations in Asia. Uptake of the vaccine in the US is low. Most people are a year or more out from their last shot.

The new variant is dubbed NB.1.8.1. Like all the other currently circulating variants, it's a descendant of omicron. Specifically, NB.1.8.1 is derived from the recombinant variant XDV.1.5.1. Compared to the reigning omicron variants JN.1 and LP.8.1, the new variant has a few mutations that could help it bind to human cells more easily and evade some protective immune responses.

I appreciate your presentation of the data, but the majority of people need little encouragement to dismiss Covid.

That sentence doesn't say it's "not more infectious". CBS: "Data indicates that NB.1.8.1 does not lead to more severe illness compared to previous variants, although it appears to have a growth advantage, suggesting it may spread more easily," Verma said. "In other words, it is more transmissible."

it's crazy to put out a podcast about the lies around the pandemic while spreading misleading misinfo. we've completely stopped counting and did over 2 years ago. the pandemic is ongoing and a variant being "not as severe" does not tell the whole story. I strong recommend death panel

What does that mean, "more dangerous" and "more infectious"? COVID hangs in the air like smoke. The damage from COVID infections is cumulative.
