An excellent article. Thank you for re-posting this.
"Israel cannot exist without genocide" yeah I agree with that, but here's the thing-
I'm picturing some Mossad agent who waited until the last minute furiously searching the internet for a justification for genocide. "Guess I'll just copy and paste it from Wikipedia and hope for the best."
Victim blaming is common in abuse from the lowest levels up to genocide.
The tell was Netanyahu explicitly and repeatedly saying "Hamas" was always their amplified excuse for this as though they represented enough threat to justify his ethic cleansing to protect his corruption. bsky.app/profile/mich...
They have a 80% civilian casualty rate compared to the WW2 Axis's 65%. may seem like just 15% up but if the Axis kill 2 civilians to get one soldier, Isreal kills 4 civilians to get one soldier. THE DOUBLE THAN THE CAMP BUILDERS.
They did the thing
It's really been a Genocide All-Stars.
Never forget that the Rwandan genocide, where the Hutu murdered over a million Tutsi. They did so as the direct result of the Tutsi carrying out a literal civil war against the Hutu. Even in response to a civil war, genocide is not valid. Genocide is always wrong. Even in response to a literal war.
Genocide in response to a single terrorist attack can’t be justified if genocide in response to a civil war can’t. Israel loves to try to claim their genocide of the Palestinian people is allowable as a response to a single attack. But that argument would justify the Rwandan genocide. So.
The meta discourse driving the debate over the definition of “genocide” is whether or not Israel’s actions are consistent with justifiable goals. Whether Israel should be trusted to continue or if the international community should intervene. They are certainly not consistent and can’t be trusted.
The most common form of genocide justification I encounter is "Hamas just needs to release the hostages and surrender". As if that's an excuse for the continued targeting, killing, and ethnic cleansing of civilians.
Also you're telling me the IDF is an elite trained army that can carry out the most insane stealth missions and train US police But they can't get into the country they're carpet bombing to get out some hostages?
If they wanted them back they’d be back
Look, those are some really threatening six year olds, okay? What are they supposed to do, *not* starve them?
