I remember someone saying they once heard a white person slip up and say they don't like when they see Black people being happy and that explains so much about where we are now.

I feel like this is a reason (Black) joy is radical or can be resistance and is important. Not that I'm in a position to speak on it
As with everything about social conservatives, that's projection.
The worst and lowest white people hang their hat on at least not being a black person. Dirty trailer with 5 generations of the same truck rotting way on the lawn is a dead give away.
They’ve made themselves small and joyless to fit into a group and are ashamed when they see evidence that they didn’t have to do that
This reminds me of my racist step father who DID NOT like seeing my sister and I get along because he wanted to be seen as the soul oasis for my mother. She should have thrown his ass out. She'd probably be alive today.
They sure do slip up a lot.
I'm white, and hearing a black content creator I respect pull out the saying "a white man will shit his pants if it means a black person has to smell it" made a lot of things make sense.
Funny, I have the same feeling when I watch college football and they show the people in the stands
The great @isabelwilkerson explained this phenomenon in detail & at length in a book that’s an indispensable Rosetta Stone to US culture, politics & history. [gift link]
Just borrowed this from the library at my sister's recommendation. Looking forward to reading it.
It's amazing what White people will say to you when they look at you skin color and think you're "like them". I used to report back from White Spaces as often as I could. Why don't I any more? I don't need to. They just be sayin the shxt right out loud in the open now!
😢
That explains the last 160 years.
Hate is like drinking poison and expecting someone else to 💀
This is why they are so against school integration. When young children of different backgrounds grow up together, & experience each other's families, it builds natural empathy & understanding that helps buffer them from racist media/social narratives forced on them later.
Not that it’s the same at all- but I genuinely think this rash of intense transphobia is a direct response to seeing trans people be publicly joyful for the first time in history. They can’t stand to see the groups they view as “lesser” enjoying life when they themselves are miserable.
So in that context, this makes complete sense to me. They are always miserable.
Can confirm. I've witnessed many yt people say how much they hate Black folk simply existing. Those types of people don't talk to me anymore, and I couldn't be prouder
That's it in a nut shell.
Those ancestral memories coming through — having fun/being happy = not making them more money. 😠
That makes me sad and angry. What is in your heart that you don’t want Black people to be happy? (That’s rhetorical)
Just thinking about how white people will hurt ourselves as long as it hurts black people. daily.jstor.org/when-cities-...
WHAT????
👀
Holy this just unlocked a few childhood neighbour memories.
These fuckers will cement in a pool so NO BODY can swim before “letting” a black person swim.
I was at work one day and a song came on and we all started to sing along and some grump said, “having a good time? ☹️”, as if we didn’t have the right.
