I knew we were cooked as a society when everyone just sorta decided they were sick of dealing with Covid and everyone just decided to pretend like it wasn't a thing anymore.
I knew we were cooked as a society when everyone just sorta decided they were sick of dealing with Covid and everyone just decided to pretend like it wasn't a thing anymore.
Like, im sick of being looked at like a freak because im the only person in a fucking mask because common sense.
Yep. I live in a college town where 2/3rd of the student population is from out of state and we just had grad ceremonies a month ago. Costco cashier asked me if I was "feeling alright" in my mask and I was like, "Um, yeah...just fine...you've been on this planet over the last 5 years, right?!"
I think a lot of people think we "must be ill" as an explanation for our masking. At least it keeps them away from us though, I guess?
I’m so sick of it too. I’ve literally been called a child abuser because my kid was in a mask. We all have underlying reasons why we’re still wearing a mask. With my very bad allergies very bad asthma I can’t see myself ever stopping at this point. I’ve never been healthier.
Bottom line, PPE works and so do vaccines. The anti-vax pseudoscience and the anti-PPE pseudoscience come from exactly the same place. Science is inconvenient for authoritarians because it democratizes decision-making, and says everyone is entitled to an explanation. So they try to destroy it.
Yep! Though I honestly feel like it's more insidious at this point as the same people are stripping away vaccines, science research, healthcare, food stamps, & more. Pretty sure that they just want a lot of people dying.
I got weird looks for wearing a mask just today. Ironically I have a cold and was wearing it to protect other people
Logic is a taught skill, and the GOP has been going so far as to make teaching it illegal for years now
This abundance of stupidity isn’t a coincidence. It’s the result of very deliberate planning
This is where Asian countries do it right. Wearing a mask is just *polite*.
I’m tempted to see if I’d get less attention if I also wore a Groucho Marx mask. But that would break the seal of my N95.
I wish manufacturers made fun masks or masks with a photo of your face on it, for example.
Shit, we can't get MEDICAL PERSONNEL to mask AT MEDICAL FACILITIES, nor THE PATIENTS. Clinics and hospitals at the minimum should be mask-required (also measles), but noooOOOooo.
Measles is so much easier to spread too, and nobody seems to understand that. It can spread in the air or from surface contact for up to 2 hours. Literally just enter a room that someone with measles has been in within 2 hours and you can catch it. And the vaccine isn't perfect either.
Yep. Wonder if that's going to change at all after Kenneth Colley went into a hospital after a fall, caught COVID & died or is it just going to be "Well, he was 87". My dad is 83 & every time he's been in the hospital, I'm just waiting for him to catch COVID there.
Considering how "there's no point in saving the old" was an explicit MAGA talking point early on, unfortunately I'd have to bet on "Well, he was 87" ☹️ Fingers crossed for your dad
"Did they have any comorbidities?" "Were they vaccinated?" "Well, they were old anyways." Those seemed to be the most common things cited as why anyone from COVID died though the vax part varied depending on who was asking. Thank you.
My hubs and I are still masking, even when we answer the door. We haven't had Covid or anything else in five years. Come live near us. ❤️
I had coworkers harassing me non-stop about wearing one, despite the fact that many of my coworkers were hospitalized, and some even died.
I mask too.
I started masking during cold, flu & fire season years ago because my ESL students from Asia post SARS sold me on the benefits. As an immuno compromised teacher in a petrie dish of adult students who usually have kids in school, it saved my hide. I've been harassed so much for it since covid
Saaaaaaaaaaaame Fucking exhausting But still not as exhausting as chronic fatigue so 😷
My mom is in ICU and I’m the only one masking in the hospital I’ve seen. It breaks my heart.
Follow-up: Due to zero covid mitigations, my mother and father got Covid in the hospital when my mom was in ICU for 8 days. First time they have had it in 5 years as they are careful and my mom is compromised.
Smh im sorry
My dad was in the hospital for covid and they allowed unmasked visitors and some nurses never wore a mask. This was the hospital in Grant, Nebraska.
That’s terrible. Same happened w my husband when he tested for Covid (and was positive) and the nurse took his test maskless.
Just read long COVID has surpassed asthma as the most common chronic illness in children... makes me want to scream People want to pontificate about the virtues of caring for the collective until you bring this up and then it’s not just excuses but straight up HARASSMENT for daring to mention it
Where'd you read that?

Why Are So Many Children Getting Long COVID? - Newsweek share.google/xqFYu1wIrqLP...
jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
We vaccinated ourselves a full year before protecting our children.
I'm even more confused by the people who tell me "omg good for you for still masking!" But then they still never do.
During the pandemic, I had an oncologist appointment, and the entire staff wasn't masking. They would mask if the patient asked them to, but they really didn't want to. I told them they didn't have to, and that I was doing it to protect the chemo patients. It was lost on them.
What a bunch of bullshit! It was exactly the opposite for me and a lot of my testing was done through the public health center. They had us wait in our cars until our appointment, check in by app, got a text
That sounds sensible. I never encountered anything like that, and I had a lot of visits to medical facilities during COVID.
and then we were let into one of 4 doors that were closest to the appointment room, everyone masked, exit by same door to parking lot and car between stages if you had to change rooms. It was such an efficient system that they just threw together for the safety of us all
I'm so sorry you had to face something so scary with such horrifically blase asshats who should absolutely know better. They likely killed ppl with that attitude, it should be criminal
The hospitals refused to do any diagnostic imaging that first year of COVID. It took 10 months to get an MRI. One specialist that I went to for a second opinion, didn't even ask me any questions, looked at the previous Dr's assessment and agreed. They were both wrong. Healthcare is a disgrace.
JFC, that all sounds horrible! I tend to feel that our local public health is pretty usually horrible, but they somehow pulled it together for the pandemic. It strangely was one of the better healthcare experiences when I went, but having had cancer before then there was about a third of the visits
And testing as there had been before and my recovery has definitely been a lot harder. I can't imagine doing all this with the level of care you got, though, just unbelievable that you are still here to tell your story.
Here is the supporting evidence: Long COVID is common, affecting up to 10% to 20% of children... With almost 6 million US children potentially affected, this is higher than the number of children with asthma, the most common chronic health problem in children. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
It is maddening, having common sense. Literally the worst time to be alive if you aren't dumb.
Hugs, it ain't just you and thank you for gaf ❤️
I'm looking for a new primary care physician right now because of my current pcp's attitude about it. I'm sick of the eye roll and dismissal. What I've learned from this ongoing pandemic is that most doctors are not scientists, they're just certified technicians.
My coworkers and friends just accept my masking and that I will only take it off outdoors to eat but still seem surprised by the fact I don't do air travel or any activity with large crowds. Just an absolute disconnect. Now it's pure spite that keeps me going cause I ain't getting Covid. Period.
I'm a person who doesn't want to cause any trouble, I try to be polite and kind. I moved back to my small home town in the South and wore my N95 in the store in Dec. A woman took my photo & tried to sneak away. I decided to let her know what I thought and so I followed her. Found her two aisles /1
over. She stood frozen acting like she was invisible. I walked up to her, eyes on her, and I stopped 20 feet in front of her. I gave her a hard stare. She never flinched. I turned and went back to minding my own business-grocery shopping. People infuriate me and break my heart at the same time. /2
Honestly the fact that you did this does make me feel stronger in a way. A lot of people just can't own their shitty behavior when it comes down to it. (Not that I'm discounting the loneliness you felt, I know what it's like!)
Had no plan of what I would do if she came at me, but I just couldn't let it go at that moment. Had to do something. And you're right, the loneliness of it all was pretty harsh too.
I hate that people can't just mind their own business. I'm in LA so I get left alone. Only noticed one guy shake his head and chuckle as I was donning my mask before entering a building. It's hard to confront strangers even when they're being jerks and totally deserve it.
Exactly the same here…
It gave me cancer and my husband COPD. When they did the surgery on me, they sent my bits to a palentologist who was on a team doing research on Covid Linked Diseases. That was from Covid 19 the original. Ive had a few strains and I barely leave my home. Its also people who live with me.
I'm so sorry. So many people are developing long term health issues but most aren't making the connection to the "just a cold/flu" being the source and it doesn't get better from here.
I agree.
One of us! One of us!
Have you never contracted COVID?
My family all got covid last yr at the dentist. Only time we all had our masks off. 12hrs from 'I'm tired' to sepsis for my dad. Currently can't get our boosters because rfk had them all recalled until 'covid season'. WTF?! Every day is covid season!
My parents and I all caught COVID at the dentist, too. Dad's long COVID is slowly killing him. Mine has made my life much harder. I mask everywhere I can, but the dentist office is one place where I just can't. I have terrible teeth and have to risk my life getting them looked after.
Came across the following today which might help. I'll definitely try this for my next dentist appointment. x.com/findmeablueb...
You may also want to try a spray as extra defense. This is one I've been recommended recently. www.profispray.com
I've been using them for a while now. Hopefully they will help.
I use this personal air purifier at the dentist office. I place it on my chest while my mouth is open and my mask is off. I don’t take off my mask until my purifier is in place and turned on. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09B...
Good idea. I have one of those for when I'm flying. I'll bring it to my tooth cleaning next week.
I just got a Covid vax on Thursday. Got it cuz I have a dental appointment later in summer and I’m worried about it. Also concerned there won’t be a vax ready for fall so, hopefully, will have some carryover of this one.
That’s crazy.🤦♀️
I take a portable air purifier to the Dentist with me and have it on my lap and have educated them to have their own air purifier going in the room and to wear masks. Have been lucky so far with those precautions. Lucky too that I have a dentist willing to listen to the science of airborne viruses 🤔
There are two to three distinct waves per year and the vaccine wanes in less than six months. RFK Jr., Dr. Oz and the rest are gonna be responsible for so much illness and death in the next decade.
The fact that we should be getting bolstered more often, but couldn't get them without a 6mth interval was frustrating. Once a year?! Well, I guess it's a good thing we planned out funerals last year when we thought we were going to lose family to covid. Wtf is this bs...
☹
Trump and his admin are going to kill us!
It’s literally just me…everywhere I go. And when assholes ask me why I’m wearing one and I tell them I haven’t been sick in over 5 years, they are shocked. And it’s really not that shocking.
I’m also in an area where I’m one of the few mask-wearers and when you do encounter another person wearing one, the knowing nod to one another is fun. Not much of a compensation for the unfriendly glances but I’ll take it.
Thank you for wearing one, it really is appreciated
Oh, you don't even want to know where I've been wearing mine! Now, I almost dare people to say something as to why I'm "still" masking. "Allergies" usually suffices but I'd like to say, "So I don't catch the brain controlling amoeba that you've got that makes you wear that stupid red hat!"
You'll need to get over that. I have. Let Darwin take it from here.
I only know of 5 people I knew or met before all this who are still doing the things 🫠
This was me for the longest time. Never could wrap my head around the lack of masking by my medical teams and at the hospital. Now I guess I've become somewhat suicidal and have stopped masking in just the last few weeks. Certainly, do not advocate that for others. 70% MAGA County warps the psyche.
You're not the only one.
I was a painter in a body shop & the only one wearing a mask when in the office. My wife was working COVID ICU. Every Friday morning meeting my Trumper boss would mimic Trump. It'll be gone by April, then June, then August etc. Each time I stood there & shook my head no, I said nope, it'll get worse
I have an autoimmune disease and stopped wearing a mask. I got Covid and it was awful. I also developed hives over my body and shingles. Covid does strange things-it keeps on giving. Mask up Autoimmune People, it’s worth it.
Oh no! Same here! I have Hashimoto's and have had numerous flare-ups resulting in lower respiratory infections and hives even though I still mask (except when eating in public spaces, which I do infrequently).
I think everyone has different strange reactions when they get Covid especially if they have an autoimmune disease. Thanks for sharing, I thought I was the only one.
Long Covid is a gift giver.
That wasn't on you though. That was on the sick person who didnt wear a mask to contain their own germs. Masks keep it in.
Masks don't keep it out but "respirators" absolutely do. N95 or better are incredibly effective. youtu.be/eAdanPfQdCA?...
N95 seems to do the trick and good hygiene. It worked for me, once I stop wearing my mask I got Covid. I too wanted to pretend Covid did not exist anymore.
A lady on a plane had one on the blue sky feed going nuts and Dumb white hag
Tell those fucks that if it's OK for ICE and cops to wear masks, you can as well.
You're not the only person in a mask. There are many like us.
Well we rarely see them when we're out. At work on a campus of 1,000s it's me & one of the security people. At this point it's probably a detriment to my career but I don't care.
Don't worry, they are lemmings. I'm a freak too.
I wouldn't care how they looked at me.
👍
And then the people trying breathlessly explain why they dont mask or take protocols anymore all the while trying to tout community care and mutual aid as a personality.
What frustrates me is the performative behaviors. The incomplete half-assness. It's virtue signaling with virtually no use..
THIS
Look my guy, I make $15.75/hr, my job barely offers insurance, & when I mask 40hrs/wk I get painful skin rashes. I got one kidney & other risks. Sucking a couple dicks a week is literally safer than the W2 income. If I seem like Idc it's because I'm too fuckin' beaten down to do anything about it.
Okay, so I'm going to tell you something I realized back when I had knee-jerk reactions about stuff: People are not always talking about you. It sounds like you have valid reasons not mask. That means that this conversation isn't about you and you can sit down.
Most people do not develop painful rashes from masking and have both kidneys. Those are the ones we are talking about. This is about a trend in society as a whole, not an attack on you personally.
It is similar to how when we curse the unvaccinated, we are not yelling about people who are unvaccinated because they are the statistical oddity which is a person who cannot get safely vaccinated.
You talk a lot
I actually think you should stfu w/the judge shit to my coworkers who have both kidneys and less sensitive skin? Do you interact w/the public regularly during your workday?
Cooooool. Was actually just boosting the message but yes telling blue collar workers to sit down while we suggest others take some responsibility ...great strategy. Sitting now 🙄
Totally legit - if my work didn’t purchase a supply of good comfy masks I don’t think I’d be masking as much as I do. They’re so expensive. So are tests, which we were also lucky to have a work supply of. I masked and tested more than average bc I didn’t have to pay for it. Privilege for sure.
It’s not a privilege it’s basic minimum safety, it’s something everyone should have and I’m glad you have it. A privilege is something that’s nice to have— like free office coffee. The ability to work without being forcibly infected is essential.
In a perfect world absolutely yes it should be the bare minimum that all workers are provided. I am just well aware that I am the only person I know who still has access to masks and (expired but stuff good per the cdc) tests through my work.
I’m not sure I have the energy to describe it today but I have one hell of a positive story about having surgery this past week where the care team was completely supportive of my respirator/“let’s not get covid” goals and 😍 to them.
Rare
Good stuff!
A lot of people are responding to this so I’m just going to reply to say that if you’re interested, I will follow up. (Operating rooms are basically the safest places in hospitals - extreme air changes and everyone in masks. But what about outside them…)
When the surgery is over people remove their masks. Often there are unmasked people around you as you emerge from anesthesia.
I asked them to keep an oxygen mask on me until it was ok to put my respirator back on and I woke up in recovery with my N95 in place so they honoured that.
Please do! It’s so hard to get doctors to mask up
That's the thing outside the or the air cleaning is that of an office. It's why I've put off my surgery for so long. I'm more likely to die from covert afterwards then the surgery itself
I think some of it was sheer despair. I mean if the pandemic will never end no matter what we do why try? The message I got was covid is infinitely contagious infinitely disabling and totally ubiquitous and we are cooked forever . This from the people talking precautions.
There's so much we can do and it's all technology from pre covid. Far UVC light has been known to be effective in destroying viruses for decades for example. Doing nothing at all will get the results you describe. Doing nothing is a choice. Taking risk reduction measures is a different choice.
It was 3 months
We had remote school in nyc the whole year
www.covidsafetyforschools.org
that’s another right wing talking point there’s plenty that we could do to actually end the pandemic (indoor air quality standards, universal masking, vaccination requirements, paid sick time); we simply chose not to + now everyone, but especially immunocompromised people, must suffer indefinitely
It isn’t right wingers who are telling me “breathe the same air as anyone and you will lose everything that makes life worth it” Or saying the numbers go up up up with no mathematical possibility for anything to get better. There are some serious disconnects in the messaging, at least for me
youtu.be/WxEssOeEsVk?...
i have a sense you aren’t taking in the full message yes, those of us who are covid conscious educate everyone on the ongoing threat, especially when there’s zero mitigations. that doesn’t mean that we don’t also talk about what can be to stop the pandemic for real
the idea that we can’t do anything and have to throw in the towel is most emphatically a right wing message and what has led to the current state of endless pandemic if you’re getting that from punitively leftist sources, stop listening to them + listen to disabled + chronically ill people
many leftist and progressive activists have done an absolute shit job during the pandemic, and have mirrored the same right wing talking points that throw chronically ill, disabled and immunocompromised people to the eugenics wolves this is a societal problem
in the meantime, take action within your control to stop the pandemic *wear an N95 whenever you are in public *get vaccinated *clean indoor air with HEPA air purifiers and good ventilation *lobby for vaccine access for everyone, and for paid time off and indoor air quality standards
We were always so close. We just needed a few things or a national quarentine for a few weeks! Instead trump and the media fucked around and boosted enough medical misinfo to kill any possible solutions.
yep and now here we are, 5 years later, 30 million people dead, over 400 million disabled, absolutely no mitigations in place, and even vaccine access eroded
It's so disgusting
Exactly. Immunocompromised person here. My life still looks like 2020.
same, and i’m sorry❤️ i’ve been in eugenics house arrest since march 15, 2020 because no one gives a shit about a deadly and disabling airborne virus or about immunocompromised people being able to fully participate in society
I’m sorry too. I wish we didn’t have to do this to preserve whatever baseline we have left. It’s why I’m not shocked by Alligator Auschwitz or the ICE SS or any other current cruelty. I’ve already seen society’s worst face. None of this is new. It’s been going on for years.
yep eugenics always leads to fascism. the moment we collectively gave in to eugenics, when society at large gleefully ripped off their masks and abandoned you and i and millions others like us to die, we were on the road to fascism
Meanwhile, a friend of mine tested positive last weekend. Am I still masking? You better believe it!
I know (unfortunately) several leftist/anarchists that refuse to mask. So I just ignore everything that they have to say and never allow myself to be inside with them.
Arguing with one further down this thread. About to give up and mute. Some people just cannot see past themselves. Me me me.
know you're doing it because it's the right thing to do and you care how your actions impact others. But I also do NOT want you to know what it's like to live with Long COVID. If you value having quality of life, continuing to mask is just common sense.
I have long covid, and it's sucking brutal
Saame. On year 5... I hope you 2 have good days ahead of you . this thing sucks ass...
10/10 do not recommend!
This part! I'm not technically immunocompromised but I AM severely disabled and I 1) cannot handle becoming even sicker than I already am and 2) do not wish for anyone to end up like me. So I mask and try to get others to, as well.
I hope you never get LC on top of what you have. 10/10 do not recommend!
I think I already have some. Brain has been extra foggy and weird since I got covid a year and a half ago.
Yup, I've had to tell multiple people that if i ever become disabled and unable to perform at mt profession then that's if for me because i won't have have any other way to support myself of pay my bills.
The fact that USians live like that is wild to me. Like, I've been unable to work for most of my adult life. I've never had to realistically worry about being homeless, or starving or not being able to access medical care. Why are you guys not rioting over all of that?! Serious question.
A mix of all the cops and soldiers, and that the liberals will stand with the cops and soldiers against the rioters. There’s a reason that the biggest resistance to ICE has come from immigrant communities. They haven’t accepted the American consensus that you always do what authority says.
Well they're also the communities that the US is demonising, so the white middle class doesn't realise they're being taken for a fucking ride (see up top, everything I get for just existing USians have to work for)
Same. People really live in such deep denial that it could easily be them you’re talking about.
Yes and ask the family and friends who pressure you to stop taking precautions if they will help you by...doing almost everything for you when you're sick with Long COVID. Will they cook/make your meals, do your laundry, bring you to all the doctor appointments to treat LC?
Hi Jessica, I've never seen you before...but as someone who has been saying for several years this very point--that people who complain I still mask are NOT going to be helping me with laundry, grocery shopping, or paying my bills--can STFU, you've earned a Follow from me😷
There is no treatment for LC. Unless you have a stroke or heart attack, or develop diabetes or kidney disease, etc., but who wants any of those? If I get COVID again, are the unmasked zombies going to pay for my nursing home care for the rest of my life? My family won't even mask.
And one thing people don't grasp is that Long COVID is not a binary condition. It's COVID-induced multi-systemic injury. Every new reinfection increases the odds of it utterly disabling you. It's an immune-evasive and corrupting SARS virus. Closer to HIV than to the common cold.
also horrifying: “vaxx and relax” is a lie. the vaccines are an important layer of protection—along with masking and air ventilation/filtration—but on their own, they don’t offer very much protection against disability.
OMG I’m so damn tired of hearing this lying ass crap that is just fucking stupid. Stop lying and fear mongering. No vaccine is gonna kill anyone unless they have an already existing condition and or are allergic. Fucking moronic idiots think they’re bad. Fucking stupidity. Absolutely entitled/selfis
Slow down—That's not what they're saying. COVID vaccines do a good job against severe symptoms in the acute phase (keeping you out of hospital), but they do not shield you from the damage the SARS CoV-2 virus does to the body. Vaccinated or not, every time you get COVID, you can get Long COVID.
where did i say any of that? i said *alone* they do important things like REDUCE hospitalizations, REDUCE transmission, REDUCE long covid. relying SOLELY on vaccines and not ALSO masking and purifying the air means you only get a 30% reduction in long covid. repeat infections make that more likely
Hey, you beat me to it. And vaccines reduce Long COVID (we think*) but not nearly as much as repeat infections increase the risk of developing it. *Because there are no diagnostic tests for LC, we don't know for sure who has it, how bad. It's still all FAR too murky.
i want everyone to use *every* layer of protection available to them against covid. covid causes things like MCAS. my partner was born with MCAS but is currently in the worst flare. i have CFS myself but have been his 24/7 caregiver for the last 5 weeks. i don’t want stuff like this 🧵 for anyone.
What boggles my mind is how many people I know who probably have some form of LC and have no idea they do. "Oh, it's not Covid, it's just this cough I've had for 7 months." "Somehow I catch a cold every 6 weeks haha so weird." My dude, that's not normal. That shouldn't be happening!
LOL; I've seen it too. "Sure, I've been coughing everyday for 3 months since I got COVID...but I'm not going to mask to avoid reinfections. I'll just get use to this 7-day week cough!"
🎶 coughing niiine to fiiive-chh-khh-cchhh / but we still don't think it's Covid 🎶
except it's more like 24/7 😬
"Sure, I've coughed everyday since my infection 3 months ago but it's mild. I'm FINE. Everything's fine..."
It attacks people’s ‘weakest’ part, which is why there is such a wide variety of symptoms. I have a compromised immune system so basically didn’t leave the house for 2 years, then continued to mask for a couple more on public transport. Still always have one with me and have had innumerable shots.
There is no cure but there is useful symptom management worth pursuing. it takes a lot of time and effort to get it. But I don’t want other people who have LC to get the idea that when their family doctor is clueless there’s nothing more to do. Joining a patient community is key for referrals.
I don’t share that to reassure anyone. No one deserves this. I just know that I have regularly encountered people with LC who have had no specialized care and I have been able to point them towards help that lead to meaningful improvement. Everyone’s still sick of course just slightly less.
I can confirm, you absolutely *do not* want to know firsthand what it's like living with long COVID. It sucks so much.
It does suck! All because many people couldn’t be bothered to mask-up to protect themselves and OTHERS. Common courtesy and the social contract are dead. I’m sure any government-funded research on Long Covid has been gutted.
Their right to go to brunch trumped our right to a healthy life and everyone just sort of accepted that was okay and it was as it should be.
And if they had done it, I might be able to go to brunch again someday.
Trumped, is right.
I mean, this happened a year after Biden was elected and people took their masks off because it was no longer a source of protest against Trump. It's a collective failing of society.
Yeah, I watched that happen.
🤬
The US was founded on "rugged individuality." Rugged individuality has devolved into pathological selfishness.
Word. 💯🎯
Unfortunately it's not just the US. Most of Europe is just as bad about masking. UK, too. Lots of people hold up Japan as a paragon of masking, but I see less than 10% masking indoors now, even on the subway, which is just about the worst place for catching respiratory diseases.
It probably would have helped if masking wasn't so closely tied to a single disease rather than being good practice for mitigating many
Yet ICE are great little maskers aren’t they….mask to save lives, BAD, mask to take lives, GOOD….mixed up World
Decreased Influenza Activity During the COVID-19 Pandemic — United States, Australia, Chile, and South Africa, 2020
past two years I've been constantly sick since I stopped masking. Before Covid, got sick maybe once a year
Unfortunately, COVID f-s up immune systems.
Why don’t you start masking again then!? You’re hurting others AND YOURSELF too, no?
i always mask if I'm not feeling well.
Thank you for that, it’s more than most people do (even in medical facilities)-so that is appreciated. Please know that Covid can be asymptomatic, and is still contagious even when people are pre-symptomatic-so you can get it (&/or spread it) even when everyone appears to be ok.
This!!!
It was natural to accept the risk of covid when the fatality rates declined from the first three or so variants.
No. Not when the disablement rates are so high. Not when consent was manufactured from policies handed to the Biden admin from Delta Airlines. Not when we could have actually returned to our lives with a focus on air filtration infrastructure in buildings.
easily bored society, commitment, integrity and staying the course when things aren’t easy, are rare, we’ve become a society of softies and quitters
Not Sandy Hook?
But, yet it’s still there, still killing people or leaving them with chronic ailments. Imagine if everyone isolated, wore mask and vaccinated like the doctors and professionals said, the virus in all likelihood would have been eliminated or degraded to an occasional infection.
I was thinking that yesterday.
Cuz they were told almost DAILY .Remember trump would take the podium almost every night during 6 pm news and lie while Drs stood behind cringing
Yes, thank you.
Because it isn’t, don’t be such a sheep. It’s a virus, like the flu. Have you noticed the number of cases of the flu has gone back up since the Covid hysteria subsided. Wake up and get your head out of sand.
We were cooked as a society when we didn’t laugh Donald Trump out of the room when he ran the first time.
He threatened starting his own party. They should have let him!
Exactly. That is how I knew they would also re-elect that felon
Shit- i knew we were cooked when 20 kindergarteners were slaughtered in their classroom & the nation decided to protect the guns
It was this for me, too.
My thoughts exactly. Tku for posting the post-covid fog.
No. You're cooked as a society when the man running for president is a civilly liable rapist, tax avoider, homophobic, racist and so many more horrible things and STILL becomes president...
The creationists were in bed with Republicans for decades. That was the sign we were cooked, way back when
Yeah, Covid19 is still alive. It's no longer deadly but it's tough. A friend is just recovering from it now. She's vaccinated so she's okay but it really affected her vacation.
It is still deadly. Did you read the article?
I didn't read the article, I was commenting on what we are experiencing in Italy. It's not deadly here if you're vaccinated. It's not an easy virus, but people aren't dying like before. I know 2 people who have had it.
Vaccination greatly reduces risk of death/hospitalization during acute infection. Unfortunately, it confers very little protection against long covid & other permanent damage from even mild covid infection- heart, brain, lung, kidney damage, etc., blood clots and destruction of the immune system.
Okay, great. So, what's the solution?
Well-fitting respirator (N95 or similar) when sharing air w/ppl outside your household; cleaner air- purifiers, fans, open windows; plain saline nasal spray, Betadine spray; molecular tests like PlusLife (which you might have access to in Italy) or Metrix. 👀 at studies to educate yourself & others.
Yeah, we're not having that kind of situation in Italy these days. People who are getting Covid are recovering from it, like the flu. My friend is actually on a boat in the Mediterranean with her husband and 4 children. She recovered just fine and no one else got it. Are you vaccinated?
Are you vaccinated?
Certainly.
Are you vaccinated?
People who are vaccinated can still get infected with Covid and also get long Covid. I personally know someone who was vaccinated and has long Covid. Vaccines REDUCE the chance of long Covid, but do not prevent it 100%. youtu.be/M4Nzhpeu2Y8?...
youtu.be/GPUTTjjdT4A?...
Agreed
Yeah
yeah
Omg yes!!! That was my wake up too.
I recall Republican state governors proudly announcing that they were done with COVID restrictions, lockdowns and mask requirements and that their state was open for business! And when the death toll spiked a month later, they declared that this was a failure of the Biden administration
I still take covid seriously, but I it’s taken *work* for me to hold on to the truth of covid in the face of relentless official messaging that minimizes the risks or provides straight up wrong info. I often feel like a conspiracy theorist when I explain to others why the CDC covid guidance is bad.
We are constantly being gaslit by everyone around us telling us that COVID isn't a big deal.
Absolutely this. And it's maddening and frustrating it has to be constantly debunked.
I try to tell myself that feeling like a conspiracy theorist is like wondering if you’re delusional — hopefully it means you aren’t.
This covers just about everything you need to know in one place... @panaccindex.bsky.social
📌
💯
That’s how it started out for some
This!!
This isn’t true for everyone, but in general, it seems the more times you’re infected, the easier it becomes to pretend and deny.
I have noticed that too
Samsies, bro.
Don't think you speak for everyone. I've had every Covid vax that has come online and I'm careful about social distance. There are lots of people like me.
Just low on the priority or....why the fuck bother..............looking at how this country is going. Which will go first......the usa or life on this planet. Thoughts.
I got Covid for the first time mid-June. I had no symptoms other than a stuffy nose. I thought it was seasonal allergies but tested anyway. Took about 10 days before I tested negative. My work still has protocols that let me work remotely until I tested negative.
I am amazed you even tested...I didn't know that was still a thing people did
Thought it was unlikely but was like “what the hell.”
We can't do that again...for any disaster...including Trump.
To me it was the day when, in the middle of a GLOBAL pandemic, we were experiencing the equivalent of 9/11-level deaths on a DAILY BASIS, people were out protesting, because they wanted to throw all caution to the wind just to get a haircut. A m’f’ing haircut!
Of all the hills to die on, that sure was a pathetic one. Hell, one of the few good things to come out of COVID is that I now cut my own hair lol.
Same here. A Wahl electric trimmer, #4 straight up the sides, lower part with #2. Since early 2020. I get it right like I never could get the barber to do.
I, at least in part, blame Biden and democratic messaging/caving. When he joked about masking, it didn’t help. One of my old roommates literally abandoned precaution when he said we had to move past covid.
It was when Sandy Hook happened for me, that’s when I knew this nation was in real trouble. Republicans are the most uncaring, unethical, cruel bastards ever.
It was never a thing, it was an insilico patent in the US microbiology lab patented in 2007 or before - and a fake PCR test invented without any virus with a different stock genome.
Then there's this...Trump admin forcing USDA to purge scientific data showing farmers how to farm in the ever changing climate conditions. How many voted for Trump? Humanity is headed for Doomsday being run by so many emotionally immature greedy men. Ugh. ☮️🙏 www.thecooldown.com/green-busine...
🎯🙋♀️👆
Yeah, and that is when I stopped spending so much time with society.
America is governed by bullies, elected BY bullies. Some states and towns literally enacted mask bans. To prove that they can force us to do what they tell us to do. To #OwnTheLibs ... even if it also kills them. Total authoritarian powertrip.
I noticed that when we went from corona to Ukraine and Russia
Trump received no consequences for his deadly response to COVID.
kills me when I see people not masking and giving the ones who do, the worst shit because we remind them of something they want to memory-hole
Oh honey, I totally get the vibe! It’s like we all just threw our masks in the trash and said, “Peace out, Covid!” 😂 But seriously, did we miss a memo or are we all just manifesting a drama-free summer?
The real crazy part is that this response was considered right wing and rightfully antisocial at the beginning of covid. Just a few years in, leftists took all these points over like it's the most normal thing. As if antisocial behaviour would suddenly be compatible leftist thinking. It's not.
I knew at this point that fascism can easily take over because in their core, most people are egoistic, hedonistic and real stupid assholes. Oh well, wish I was wrong.
Right, like, liberals have gotten so used to marching right along with the overton window they just do it without even being asked anymore.
Oops.
Measles is still a thing, so... Im pretty sure this argument could be used for many illnesses. Humans are awful.
Measles has a fully preventative vaccine, though. COVID vaccines are important, but they don't completely stop infection and transmission. If you're older, getting a measles booster is probably a REALLY good idea.
I know. It's scary
it's endemic now. If people had just behaved until vaccination rates got over 90% it would be pretty well gone now.
It is not endemic. Vaccination does not stop infection, nor forward transmission. Respirators and good ventilation do that.
That’s another thing that amazes me … that we couldn’t even learn from COVID to have good ventilation in spaces. Hell, even more fans and open windows from there on out .. uh we were so eager to get “back to normal” that even that’s a bridge too far I guess??
blah blah blah whatever you say
I agree with this ultimately but do feel it wasn’t so much a decision the populace made as the orchestrated outcome of a very deliberate campaign conducted by wealthy and powerful people who didn’t want us getting any crazy ideas about our lives having more inherent value than their stock portfolios
There was a McKinsey report on how the pandemic would "end" and it was all about how people should be made to feel, not so much the science of the virus. It was a propaganda campaign like any other.
I say this a lot, but the tell for me was how formerly responsible and reasonable people started parroting the exact same talking points as the sociopaths who were furious they couldn’t go to Applebee’s in May 2020
two doses of vaccine with no long-term protection and no defense against long covid and all of a sudden we all need to live our lives and everybody’s gonna get it sooner or later and it’s basically just a cold anyway
I knew the US was done when it got attacked by the Saudis and took it out on Iraq and Afghanistan
Most everybody already had Covid. Some twice. Even with vaccines. People want to get on with their lives. It makes sense.
People like you are why I'm always so goddamn embarrassed to be a leftist
You should wear a mask. As for being a leftist, you don’t have to be. And I’m not leaving.
Some people can’t get on with their lives after COVID. I had it twice, after 5 vaccinations. 1st time in December 2022 and 2nd in August 2024. I masked in public but was infected by a family member each time. They were getting on with their lives and now I can’t get on with mine because I have POTS.
After 5 vaccinations …
The virus evolves faster than vaccines so by the time I got it, I my body recognized it but didn’t have a full set of tools to fight it. People already said it was over by 2022. It’s still not over.
I’m very sorry that you have become so compromised due to Covid infections. It is so frustrating that others think nothing of getting it and spreading it around. Best wishes.
Thank you. Not everyone infected has a life-altering experience, but there’s no way to know who will or which infection will have mutated enough to evade immunity. It’s a crapshoot. In about 5 years we could all have an ugly surprise if we still have NIH and CDC. Otherwise, it’s The Rapture.
I hear you. I’m almost 75 yrs old; I feel like I need to save my brain as best I can b/c with everyone I know getting repeat COVID infections, I might need to help people out when they get too foggy to do their everyday tasks. Delusional maybe, but I feel there is a dumbing down happening.
I rarely get invited or go to family gatherings, probably because I still call before going and ask if anyone is sick. If they are, I stay home. Most people I know show up even when sick like, no big deal. I still mask when I’m out and have not had COVID yet. A bit lonely sometimes but healthy.
Repeatedly getting covid can completely ruin a person's life, but go off.
Then you should wear a mask.
I rarely go outside without one.
Be thankful you have seen the light, you’re masked and safe, and pity the unwashed masses that are all going to perish from Covid.
Your condescension is a projection.
Do you actively try to get pneumonia all the time, too?
Who said anything about actively trying to get Covid? 🙄
💨
Well, friend, when you take no mitigation methods and you refuse to quarantine people... You are actively trying to get it. It's like not washing your hands and then complaining to me that you came down with e. coli.
I had to tell this to my brothers girlfriend when they were teenagers, and she told me that they weren’t trying to get pregnant, but also they didn’t use anything birth control methods. Girl, really! Trying, not trying? Result will be the same.
It applies across so many things. Don't put away your food? Salmonella.
You can get Long COVID on subsequent infections, virus mutates for immune escape and surges multiple times a year - do the math
Wear a mask.
You are not a serious person bsky.app/profile/exim...
Not many people do! They should be educated and informed!
Wild. Three out of the 4 people in my house have never had covid. The one person that did caught it because they worked in a hospital with terrible protocols.
And the more times you're infected, the more likely you are to be permanently disabled by it. Wearing a mask in public wouldn't stop anyone from getting on with their lives. 🙄
You should wear a mask.
Everyone should.
They aren’t going to. You’d be doing yourself a favor if you got over that fact. Be thankful that you are safe and masked and pity the unwashed masses.
Does it make you feel warm and fuzzy to be a condescending douche? 😂 Actually, don't bother answering. Bye now.
I’m feeling warm and fuzzy.
Our response..globally..choosing disease &death so they could get back to the gym, eat out, hit the bar after work,go to concerts instead of buckling down for 6 wks &demanding their gov actually support them thru the crisis was a dress rehearsal for today. Showed dictators how spineless we are.
Hedonism.
Bars 🔥
ELL you definitely didn’t live in Santa Clara County in Ca. We were the first to lock down and the last to to the all clear.
Don’t forget the group that was actively campaigning to declare the end of COVID, same group behind Jan 6th and wear red hats.
…reading that while coughing up a lung.
😒
If they paid attention in history class they would have known the plague was around for 400 years. The 'Spanish flu' had two devastating rounds killing millions and millions.
A man mean mugged me yesterday for wearing a mask. I have never had covid and I never want to get it.
We are a self-centered and selfish society.
People still treat it like a thing where I live. Probably a good sign we should secede.
That's super impressive! I wish I could afford to move somewhere like that! Maybe someday
How some people treated Covid is how mainstream media is treating Trump’s madness - just pretending it’s not a thing.
I knew we were history when a bunch of first graders were slaughtered with weapons of war and Congress did NOTHING. Profits over people. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
I had a neighbor recently tell me that COVID was "mostly fake".... Huh? I guess the dead folks didn't get them memo.
And apparently the new variant is the worst yet! Now we have no help. More deaths.
Me too. 🤷🏾♂️ It was decidedly informative about who and what we have become.
Agreed.
I had my second bout of Covid in the spring and when I told people, many came back with, "I didn't know that was still a thing". One grumpy old bastard told me there was no such thing.
We were soo not ready
I think we're witnessing the rise of the "I'm not a morning person, I'm just allergic to responsibility" mask.
I got suspicious when they started saying corporations had the same rights as people, but gotta admit, I didn't know the degree to which they'd deny science.
i worried when reagan told us that hearing "the government is here to help" is terrifying paraphrasing...
We dealt with COVID.
Keep your vaccines up to date
COVID has not gone away, my Mom and a friend just got it . Thankfully it wasn’t deadly, but they were quite sick
The lack of empathy or concern for other human beings and fellow their Americans was soooo excruciating. The pandemic was bad enough to get through but the complete lack of care for anyone else by a certain segment of Americans broke my damn heart and infuriated me all depending on the day.
We were cooked when after Sandy Hook nothing changed. The second we were cool with massacred school kids it was done.
IDK it seems that we were cooked when the big orange ass didn't suffer any consequences for J6. Then we knew for sure that everyone was definitely not equal under the law. 'Course we always knew that rich guys always get away with shit, but that was the capper. Donaldo delenda est
I knew it after Sandy Hook.
I knew it when Trump posted that Michigan should revolt against mask mandates.
I knew we were cooked when every manufacturer was considered "essential" because the GDP is almost entirely consumer spending, and that requires a steady stream of goods to buy.
Ha! Same. I do my best in the world. Protecting my brain, & it also protects others.
The unwillingness to mask for protection of others still angers me.
It's still going strong too, as the whole family caught it (1st time) a week ago from a recently hospitalized relative. Sucks!
It's so frustrating in my country (the UK) - there are countless articles of "Why is the sickness benefit bill growing so fast?"; it's almost like our government didn't give a fuck that millions of people got infected.. and now they're long-term sick...
That was also due to trump. I remember very clearly the turning point was when he went on national television in the thick of it and started saying "open the schools!" And calling it all a conspiracy.
Are you a professional clown or just a hobbyist
Oh good, the trolls are here.
No, this was under Biden in 2022, when they lifted mask requirements based on what a marketing research group for the Dems recommended. It was supposed to go by if your county was low transmission but all people heard was "no mask" and suddenly the pandemic was over.
💯💯 bsky.app/profile/devi...
It was a small sliver of "swing voters" that griped in the poll about masks. Most (60-70%) in that poll said they were FINE with mask requirements for health care settings and public transportation. But those establishment Dems...forever chasing the tiny center...
I live in what’s considered a progressive paradise city & I’m typically the only masked person indoors. This includes Trader Joe’s,& my health clinic that primarily serves Medicaid/Medicare patients & has an awesome trans pride flag hanging inside—but no healthcare workers in masks.
Same.
I was referring to the middle of 2021. At that time, most people were perfectly receptive to continuing to mask...and if the Biden administration hadn't been chasing that sliver of whiners, and role modeled continuing to mask, a lot of people would be doing so TODAY. He didn't, only 12% mask now.
I was pointing out that it’s not just centrist dems who opt to forgo masking. When I was in hospital, in my progressive paradise, right after surgery, a nurse kept yelling in my ear while jabbing my clavicle with her finger to drive the point home, that I was “stupid” to wear a mask.
You are quite right about that, for the last 1-2 years, progressive peeps around me stopped too. It's a trauma response for these usually rational people. All of us had our normal lives ripped out from under us when COVID began. What do we know about trauma? Most process it poorly, even...
...enlightened people. Trauma is in the emotional brain, being smart/intelligent/enlightened is thinking brain. We who continue to mask, we are the bravest--we take on trauma and face it.
I never realized how powerful denial is as a response to trauma until the pandemic. Like I'd heard it's generally a first response, but seeing that in action en masse was wild. I hope the psychologists and sociologists are studying this now, before the data disappears to time.
I so hear you! It is quite startling. Ironically, I feel like having watched The Walking Dead for some years gave me some lessons in advance for surviving. I TOO sure hope psychologists and sociologists are studying the shit out of it too.
I have complex PTSD and have done extensive trauma recovery work. I understand the trauma response. Masking is my survival instinct kicking in.I already knew pre-Covid what it’s like to have respiratory failure & wonder if the ambulance I called for myself would arrive in time while I waited alone.
Ironically, it's because you have complex PTSD that has protected you since the COVID pandemic began, because you were prepared. Same for me, with health issues & being close to people with trauma.
Unlike my profile photo, I now have gray hair—& asthma (one of those “high risks”) —and there I am in my N95 staring at my unmasked doctor as they refill my asthma prescription. Thanks Biden!
Yup.
Cooked is the key word especially by those cookers
Arguably the same thing happened with January 6.
As someone who is fully boosted and just getting over a bout of Covid this week…. It’s been intense. People have acted surprised or like it should have just been a rough cold for me but it right fucked me up. Grateful to be vaccinated b/c I cannot imagine how worse this would have been otherwise…
We got it for the first time earlier this year. My daughter generously brought it home from work. Holy shit did it suck. And we got the so-called milder version. I cannot imagine having gotten it toward the beginning of the pandemic.
100%. I had it March 2020 & was in really good shape at the time, both muscle mass & cardio wise. I’d had pneumonia a few times prior to that & that didn’t come close. It was scary af & I lost cardio for a year, plus a TON of strength. Had diligently avoided getting it again until now 🫣
My son was very sick in early 2020 with “not the flu,” and I am 💯 convinced it was Covid.
Same. I mask constantly but I teach and it got me my only one in Feb 24. Had two Novavax shots Oct/Dec 23. Was out of work close to a month. Brain was fried for nearly a year. I often speculate on how bad it would’ve been without those two Novas
Yeah it’s called eugenics and it has killed millions and counting in America. Trump is a dictator the who works only for billionaires, his fascist regime will kill us all and profit from it.
We're still masking/being kinda "wash our hands" at our small town public library...
Before that When a not small contingent of our people thought wearing a mask to prevent the spread of a novel deadly disease to be the height of tyranny. That is until we had treatments/vaccines. Then those became tyranny.
Just as if hundreds of thousands of people didn’t die in the US.
I’m ashamed by our procrastination-We became complacent- but at 75, we finally set up appointments this week for the booster.
Lake of the Ozarks in 2021. It was a revel, like a cult.
We could survive Covid by waiting it out, although we would have lost a few more million people without Moderna and Pfizer. Beating fascism in the US is going to take a lot of organizing and a long general strike. Stock your pantries folks, and build your resilience network. It’s gonna get rough.
Can't wait for Covid 20, or whatever the next thing is, no one is gonna do a damned thing and all die because they are "tired" oof.
I knew for other reasons too. But yeah that was a pretty dead ringer there
sadly its universal...
If looks could kill, I would have been murdered many times---as I was one of the last holdouts wearing masks. People HATED me for wearing a mask.
So strange as it was a sign of benevolence and caring! 🤔
A little bit like pretending we can build a fairer society without actually changing how the economy works in the first place. That the need for a non-capitalist model isn't a thing anymore. And if it is then let's just drag out a selection of old, failed policies. Radicalism is societal.
I know we were cooked when half the white people decided wearing a mask was a bad look for the flu they had no antibodies for
I was just thinking that it was all over the news with daily reports, now you don't hear anything
Widespread apathy can cause a lot of harm to a society, as we saw in the last election. Pretending a bad thing is no longer a thing is how the bad thing wins. We don't want the bad thing to win.
And you got Biden ending the emergency to help his election chances, meanwhile that means funding for pan-corona vaccines and mitigation goes out the window.
All I can do at this point is stay masked. I’m gratefully healthy but I promised to not be a vector of disease for anyone around me nor expose myself. No one wants to know why no one wants to deal w reality anymore. I’m remaining an #Evermasker
It’s maddening to see people not wearing masks then get sick with “flu” and tell me I’m just lucky I haven’t been sick when I say I mask up to protect them and me
Genuinely asking, is COVID really as bad as it used to be in the US? In Europe, where I live, it's largely gone, only minor strains akin to a cold.
You probably won't die from the acute infection. Each time you get it, you have a 10-20% chance of developing a lifelong disability. Here's an example of some young people realizing their brain damage is not only permanent, but worsening: threadreaderapp.com/thread/19398... I think that's bad.
It is not nearly as bad as it was in 20-21.
Govts worldwide heard Trump say "if you don't test you don't have a problem" and went "ooh, I have an idea".
That feels like our Healthcare issue back in the mid 70s on paper.
Amen! Callous and reckless!
This is one of several reasons I am retiring slightly early, I expect the next pandemic sooner rather than later, & I was not impressed with how my employer handled it. Thank Goddess for the union!
The same people who claimed they could live in a bomb shelter for a long time or survive a zombie outbreak showed us they freak out if forced to wear a bit of cloth across their mouth and nose.
And seems like a number of those same folks don’t mind masking up to HARM others now. Helping was a bridge too far tho.
That's the real issue, the intent. They're despicable.
See the problem is we allow it …I hate to say it
all the solutions they suggest (isolation in a bunker, or pointing guns at the unwanted) are activities they already do, so they wouldn't have to change much.
We started prioritizing life over work in home office. Bosses and billionaires couldn't let that happen so their news outlets stopped talking about covid, or worse... We didn't pretend covid stopped. The media made us really think so.
For me, it was Sandy Hook complicity.
This!
🎯
I knew we were cooked when two US Senators said grandma and grandpa need to take one for the team because this country needs to get back to work. Nobody batted an eye or said a word. Not the media OR any other Senator or Congressman. I knew then that neither party gave a shit about any of us.
That really honestly should have been the sign for me as well on a lot of things but I didn't entirely buy it since we bucked Trump in 2020's election. So it was a delayed fucking lesson for me lmao.
We bucked Trump, only to get Biden chugging along the eugenics path as well with respect to handling COVID. People voted in Biden to be different specifically on this issue and he exacerbated things.
Uhm, *WHAT* This is a first I've ever heard a viewpoint like that lol. We mostly voted Biden in on the hope things would return to the way it was in 2019 before COVID started. It didn't, so people got pissed off lol.
You haven’t been paying attention to disabled people or public health experts, then. There were many steps along the way where the Biden admin actively made things worse, intentionally to serve capital, rather than to serve public health.
Could you name them? Because I know several people who pay attention to that sort of stuff and never mentioned such. Or at the very least, never described it the way you are.
Here you go:
... People do realize that that's because it was something short termed and a rollover of previous COVID programs that were never meant to be long term right? And that there WERE efforts made to try and make some of them permanent... but well, the Senate wasn't being cooperative?
Do people just forget that Congress has responsibilities for things too, or do people just assume the President does everything?
This is one of those things where I constantly had a bunch of my leftist and more liberal/progressive friends elsewhere complaining to hell and high water about the likes of Manchin and Sinema, who very much played roles in helping to keep some of these programs from continuing (the GOP didn't help)
Who ended it?
A-phuncking-men...me too...
I hear this. Honest to God, I think this is one factor among many to explain Cheeto's win in 2024.
When we elected that asshole governor from California, Ronald ruin.
It worked tho
They refuse to admit being wrong.
John Legend has a TV ad.
I knew I had to give up on normal when it meant agreeing to be part of that. Even though that makes me a nobody to a lot of people.
And yet, we meet others we might not ever have who are on the same page *hugs*
Or a few months into lockdown when people who said they were pro-life couldn't be arsed to wear masks.
As bad as that was, the fact that people demonized the wearing of masks, mocked and insulted them.
Yeah. I will never get over that.
I knew when a bunch of people were like: Fuck your science! I ain’t wearing a mask to help nobody! those vaccines have microchips! Give me ivermectin! Seriously I do not understand but I suspect social media & the dank fetid white nationalism we somehow need to expel someday but for now it’s ripe
I thought similar things.....I was and am sad accepting the fact so many Americans are selfish beyond my imagination.
It’s honestly wild that we made it this far as a nation, with this much ignorance, selfishness, and willful denial of reality. Geography bailed us out. So did a fluke of timing and something we romanticize as the Constitution. Beginner’s luck masquerading as greatness.
Nope …when the country didn’t tell maga ..the tea party etc to set down and shut up the adults are talking like they had … and at the same time the Christian right came to be more crazy …when we didn’t tell them to eat a bag of dicks thats when
same man...but for racism
I knew we were cooked when our government started saying sh*t without facts and flying by the seat of their pants and shutting down any questioning. What happened to the once famous bumper sticker QUESTION AUTHORITY. Everyone lost their minds and we haven't recovered from the lies.
The same thing they say when children are massacred in school. That’s their cop out when they refuse to address the real problem 😡 Blood 🩸 on their hands!
Still masking at the pharmacy and wiping my hands after leaving. Never joined the Covid club with its recurring membership dues 🤞
You need to mask indoors period and on public transportation at a minimum.
Folks rage-quit the pandemic response pretty quickly, and it fucking sucks. People just refused to understand that we could actually get rid of the illness if we just, like, cared for a minute. Meanwhile, I've been threatened for masking. And one of my co-workers was assaulted for it...
Ent to hardware store Thursday and another customer called me an idiot and told me he hopes I die
Oh the irony
😳 I’m so sorry.
Yep!
And got mad at people for wanting to mask. We didn’t try to force it on others. But if you wore a mask it equaled people being allowed to bully you.
That didn’t happen in a vacuum. The entire right-of-center world was demanding that masks were an unnecessary tyrannical overreach. If Trump had said early and often that we need to work together and be grown-ups, things would have looked quite a bit different.
It is a thing and people are still dying!
Absolutely! Ignorance does not make evil go away!
'Everyone'? Many people I know, myself included, never pretended it wasn't a thing anymore.
But it's still here! It didn't just magically go away like a miracle,it's still killing tens of thousands of people around the world daily. Humanity was tested, and it failed miserably...
And right now people are learning they have to build communities to work together in order to fight back. Our salvation from all of this may be in learning we need to look out for each other.
Welcome to the awakening. 🥲 it's been burning since the world's been turning....
A fun thing about continuing to mask is that I barely think about it anymore. I carry a couple of masks in a plastic bag in my purse, switch them out after wearing. Putting one on in the car in the parking lot is just automatic now.
As time passed the variants became less deadly and severe. Today's Covid variants are just slightly more dangerous than the flu.
Covid is deadly because of what it does to your body after it infects you!! Notice how Pancreatic cancer keeps cropping up, how everyone is sick all of the time, that chronic cough people have because of developing lung disease. Yeah, not mild
This is entirely false. Stop spreading misinformation
Hogwash. This post ⬆️ is pure misinformation.
Less deadly because most vaccined and that even helped those you chose not to.
Who*
Was just thinking of something similar— Covid related—during my walk this evening
I couldn’t agree more! I thought it would bring us together as a country but instead it showed the selfishness of individuals in our country. To put out to cover their faces for the most vulnerable
I still wear a mask everywhere and use lots of hand sanitizer.
Thank you for writing this. It makes me feel sane to hear others acknowledge it. #yallmasking
Yeah, when Biden said Covid was over, he did something that not even Donald Trump was dumb enough to do. Trump knew it was real. He just told people it wasn’t serious. Biden knew it wasn’t over and told them it was.
It was Parkland for me…
Newtown
it is hidden, but scroll down to see the number of deaths in the past 3 months by state... it's a boondoggle now because why would people need accurate information?! So sad that now people choose to wear masks to hide vs protecting others from illness. covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-t...
Yeah, wasn’t that around the time that CDC downgraded Covid from a Pandemic to a simple Endemic, ie., a normal disease that had been reduced to low numbers, and could be controlled with available vaccines, prevention and medicine?
Not only that but there will be others coming along. Keep your eyes on rfk. He’s going to be saying some asinine shit.
My biggest area of personal growth over the last 3 years is getting to a point where hearing "back during the pandemic" almost doesn't annoy me. Still in a pandemic, y'all. 🫠
Oh I generally roll my eyes at pedantry but I will point out that fact every single time it comes up. 😂
This
Somewhere between Sandy Hook and trump getting elected in 2016
Covid needed a higher mortality rate and we could have got rid of most of those people.
Biden, September 2023: covid is over Covid, July 2024: Biden is over
Had a similar feeling when the "everyone is filled with microplastics" news came out and the next day it was completely forgotten.
Absolutely
Which time? That first crazy summer release or the second general fizzle out?
I have long covid and it’s probably going to shorten my lifespan. Some days I can barely breathe. I get beyond pissed off when people like my employer say “covid is over” and tell people to come to work even if they test positive for covid.
My dear cousin Philip Hoover has been suffering it and is writing about it to share info. It’s not imaginary.
Also, long covid can happen to anyone. I have no pre-existing conditions, never smoked, not overweight, healthy diet and exercise regularly, mid-20s, and got long covid anyway.
How can they say ‘Covid is over’ but then tell people actually WITH Covid to come into work 🤷🏻♀️ Doesn’t make sense. Why do they want to scupper their own workforce 🤷🏻♀️
Anything that gets in the way of the oligarchs making more money is now considered done and over with.
I genuinely don't understand people. Is it really so fucking hard to have a single ounce of empathy? I really wish empathy was physical so I could force it down some people's throats.
I don’t blame you, they should be putting in Hepa air purifiers etc.
WHAT? 😮
We still 😷 in public. Patios only; no indoor dining. We get “looks” from some people, but so far no one has given us a hard time, thank goodness. It’s easy physically, but not socially. We miss out on lots of things we’d like to do! But we get to enjoy good health in our retirement. 👍🏻👍🏻
I had a guy try to tell me that masks weren’t needed anymore, and hilariously, that there was no such thing as immune compromised people! He claimed to work for the department of health. I guess he’s a cleaner or something…
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
I felt the most comfortable I’ve felt in a long time, quarantined in my home.
It was a "sure sign". You are exactly right.
I knew we were cooked as a society when we had countless mass school shootings and our politicians openly chose NRA money over life saving legislation, and then turned around and said they were against planed parenthood because they care about children. Vile.
People wanted to go back to their oblivious lives not live with reality. Its what this country has done for a long time. Gaslight ourselves.
Money rules especially when the greedy and selfish are allowed charge the hell out of you just to live.
I get shit on often for still wearing a mask at work (lost of seniors) & on public transit. My mother is in a nursing home that has been quarantined 4x in 18 months & a sister with asthma who had half a lung removed thanks to viral pneumonia. I am not passing around COVID or RSV if I can avoid it.
I appreciate your care and compassion.
When you care about a couple people, it should be easy to care about a lot of people.
Lots not lost. Friesian slip there.
is there a joke there somewhere?
Lost of seniors, lots of seniors... Something there.
Loving it but it's the other bit, the "Friesian" slip...
Oh dear god. I hit sned and it goes to hell.
haha.
Thanks for a much needed laugh! Or should I say thnaks?
It was supposed to be
I mean this in the most complimentary, good-natured way, but I'm going to follow you just for the typos. 😊
I know. They breed after I post I swear.
I thought you were referring to Friesland in the north of the Netherlands. 🇳🇱 and it was just your clever way of letting us know Friesland Dutch was your first language! Laughing at myself now for overthinking.
One of us one of us one of us. Neurodivergent tribe unite!
Influenza, chickenpox, polio and measles had been eradicated from the USA... but thanks to a dismantling of our health programs by the most unqualified persons, we may experience outbreaks in greater numbers than ever witnessed in past decades, because we have far more people in the USA!
Yep...it was the fault of that Orange Criminal Rapist fatass goon who ignored it for the sake of his huge fragile ego.
I just got over COVID - it’s a thing ….
THIS
So much blame hors to lying Rs
Thats why that mess spreaded like it did. Folks didn't wanna hear about going home and staying home for an extended unknown period of time. Can't miss no more days at work, still wanna go hang out, etc. IMO it didn't have to get nowhere near that bad but.......FOLKS!!!!
And they still are and it's still doing damage and mfs are acting all Sherlock like "hmmmm what could it be" when they willfully co-signed eugenics for brunch + concerts.
We lost over 1 million Americans. Society doesn’t even seem to care.
A million people died. Probably at least half of those deaths were unnecessary. The Harris campaign should have shown refrigerator trucks full of bodies to remind people what a lousy president Trump was.
Except Biden didn’t do any better with respect to SARS-Cov-2. In fact, he’s the president that “declared” the pandemic was over. So, Harris couldn’t throw him under the bus.
💯. 400,000 recorded COVID deaths under Trump vs. 800,000 under Biden
yeppp.
One of those bodies was dear to me. Seeing that repeatedly would have broke me beyond repair
💔 Sorry for your loss. It’s amazing how voters memory holed it. It seems all they remembered was the stimulus checks signed by Donald J Trump.
For the life of me, I do not know why we did not hear about trump's CV failure and January 6 EVERY DAMN DAY.
While Biden cut isolation times, told people the pandemic was over, badmouthed masks, and threw 25 million people off Medicare
Also uhhhhhh what do you mean half those deaths were NECESSARY
