I know i should stop being shocked, but it is just amazing how mant adults who were allowed to teach myself and my peers turned out to be just totally unhinged mentally.

There are a lot of publicly facing people with a lot of confidence, because they know so little, they don’t know how much they don’t know.
In fairness, all people who want to be teachers in the United States have something deeply wrong with them. You have to be a little nutty to even want to try to do it and disturbed to continue to do it despite the mental, physical, emotional, social, and political aspects of it.
This is the kind of stupid comment that makes me hate Blue Sky. Just bad takes all around
Having taught for over a decade and still currently teaching and coming from a family of teachers, and having a lot of friends who are in education to varying degrees, this is my personal experience. That said, bye then, dude.
I'm sorry. I meant to say it was a fucking stupid comment.
Fair enough. Sorry you're miserable here. See ya.
the grown ass adults who *obviously* hated children and didn't consider that at any point in their education to do that job for the rest of their lives
I had a teacher tell our class that the reason he became a middle school teacher was because he hated children and wanted to make the hardest years of our young lives worse.
That should have been an old yeller moment
Immediately had an HS teacher come to mind when I read this. He was great but zoinks.
Season 1-2 Garrison
Teachers are only considered as babysitters in this country. I think because many people (myself included sometimes) don’t see the education they received as exemplary, it leads to a sort of self fulfilling prophecy where we intentionally produce shitty teachers.
When I was in high school one of the teachers slept with a student. She was suspended without pay for a couple of years, but allowed to return to reach at the jr high school. She slept with another, you see student a few years after that.
Unfortunately education has been subject to the whims of society.
All of those incongruent confusing little moments going through school via the staff all made sense in the years after school. Definitely over the last 12 years
explains why so many of our peers are mentally unhinged
One of the music teachers in my elementary school used to give kids "the Clamp" if they misbehaved. He'd grab them hard around the back of the neck and hold them for 30 secs. If he was really pissed, he would shake them. And this is why arming teachers is a terrible fucking idea.
I had a teacher - she used to pinch us when we got out of line.
At its core Amn. society is pathological.
My parents taught my brother & I to be kind, think critically, take no abuse, give back, help others, speak up, step in. Both turned into red hats. How were they turned by such an obvious grifter? I'm sad, mystified, and angry, & will not forgive them for gifting our future so willingly to tyrants.
I’m sorry to hear that. I have friends who have lost family members to the right. It is so heartbreaking.
An unfortunate lesson I learned early in life 😩 When a new teacher at my HS was on the run & tried to elope w/a kid he taught the previous year… who was in junior high school 😵💫
I had a substitute teacher who showed us how to defend ourselves with a knife. Like a year later, he was on the news, wanted for credit card fraud, leading the police in a chase into Mexico
There was a teacher in my high school who threw a desk at a kid who had been out with a *coma* for not keeping up with his assignments when he was in the hospital. Insane. Finally they fired him when he threw another desk out the 2nd floor window at the landscaper
In 4th grade I got something like measles, I don't remember which major childhood disease it was, and missed 4 days of school. Came back on Friday to find out a huge math packet was due. I got detention bc I didn't have it. Teacher had sent it home to Mom who didn't give it to me bc I was *sick*.
Of course decades later I remember this☝️teacher's name, Mrs Crummy. I'm convinced her name made her mad and she took it out on other people.
I suppose if my last name was Crummy I might have turned out to be a Roald Dahl style cartoon villain from a kids book too
I had a teacher in HS who used to gossip maliciously about other teachers, by name, to the class. He also made disparaging remarks about other grades’ students’ appearance and intellect. He repeatedly griped about women at parties who thought they were the best looking woman there. He was married.
Like, im watching a woman who subbed for my class once go on right wing/unhinged rants all over the internet.
What's terrifying is that the requirements to be a sub teacher are often very minimal at best.
I just remembered that some techbro was saying that soon AI will be able to tutor and teach students as well, I mean....... This is not how to address a fucking teacher shortage.
That’s their answer to all the shortages. And they keep pushing back on universal income, so just adding to the lower class. The lower class is the largest it’s been in decades, all the while these knuckleheads think they’re still middle class. That “the M class is being attacked”. They can’t let
their egos down. Temporarily broke millionaires, these people. 🙄 Those are the people we need to wake up. They need to get uncomfortable. We also need to regulate ai and stop letting it learn from and teach our kids.
it's not too surprising sadly, since with subs the idea is that generally (hopefully to the school district) you only need them for a day or two every so often.
Former sub here. It is a *thankless* job. Even setting aside how the students behave for a sub, you only get paid for the days you come in, and you don’t get paid much. Plus, there’s a teacher shortage. Anyone remotely qualified is full-time. Or subs for a short stretch while they get certified.
Teaching in general is a thankless job in the U.S., so I figured a teacher shortage must be part of the requirements issue. And the shortage has been going on for... decades? 😬
It’s a bad situation. Then again, after I got laid off from book publishing, I was quickly able to land a job teaching English at an honors high school a mile from my house. So the shortage worked out for me personally!
I figured this out when they let my friends stoner brother sub for my class in high school lol
😬
Was he better or worse than the average though?
We literally just got on the internet and started looking for various bands to listen to while the class worked lol
One of my favourite teachers was a woodshop guy who got given tech classes to teach. He started the year by admitting he couldn't understand the material, then got out all the teacher notes he was given for the course and asked the class to come up and please explain them to him.
That's brilliant on multiple levels 😂
He got a lot of very high marks from that class.
The Kelly temp agency (they used to call them Kelly Girls back in the caveman days of my childhood) hires substitutes in the Houston area.
i remember processing their invoices for the hisd school i worked at back in the early oughts
you think she was always secretly like that, or spiraled out on Facebook?
I'm glad I had my extremist right wing phase when I was 12-16. I could not imagine feeling that way as an adult with a fully developed brain. It'd be embarrassing.
I've spent a lot of time in therapy dealing with the after effects of my teachers. Haven't come across them since they taught me, but I wouldn't react well if I saw them again.
The teacher in my high school who also taught driver’s Ed had an expression for stopping at a red light, “Only CREEPS, creep(As in creep forward while at a stop).” Anyway, he had an affair with a student whom he married after she turned 18 and he was well and divorced.
Not 1 but 2 coaches at my high school had affairs with and ended up marrying students. It's always the driver's ed teacher or sportsball coach, likely because they're often the same person.
same.
Are they in your timeline, too? It’s been a day.
Had a substitute teacher by the name of Mr Bird, unfortunately for him we had a kid who could do a good bird whistle and he could not resist. This apparently was a sore spot and so with each chirp he got angrier which caused a feedback loop and he went nuts so loud the vp heard and escorted him out.
It feels like most Americans in general hold troublesome beliefs. Social media pushes everyone in that direction, like a big whirlpool we're all stuck in
Scary shit
used to work with a woman who was incredibly good with kids and families, knew everybody, deep rapport throughout the community-- and was a wild conspiracy theorist. sure loved explaining to teenagers that, no, organ donation was not a scheme to kill healthy children for their kidneys or whatever
Our PE teacher was put on leave for being drunk at work. When he came back, he taught Driver’s Ed - still drunk.
my Vert Morph and ecology prof at Pitt would teach drunk NO MATTER the time of day the class was taught
My husband was in high school, drinking with the Vice Principal.
We had a teacher who snuck vodka into class in travel mug.
Had a 6th grade teacher that’d take his lunch break out at the track field drinking in his truck.
Sorry, ETA small farm town. The track was like a mile away from the school. Over some tracks and tucked away in a newer residential neighborhood. Straight shot, you’d cut your time in half, but bc he drove it was like an S shape route. My graduation class was about 100. VERY small town.
The class president of the year ahead of me 'dated' the married w/kids class advisor her jr & sr. year, all through college, when she graduated, he divorced his wife and married her. The swim coach was dating a senior on the team. 🤷♀️ (mid 80s, suburban Philly school district.)
🤮
A PE teacher/coach in my high school was extremely friendly with a girl in her jr and sr year and they got married literally days after she graduated HS. I think he was around 36. I was a year behind her and he continued his employment. (Catholic school, early 80s Oakland CA)
My parents refused to let me quit swim team, and even though they were wildly abusive, I told them that I would just never go to swim practice and they could just not know where I was for 3 hours. When I was a senior, that coach knocked up a 15yo sophomore. 😐
That coach demoted me from team elected captain, because he objected to me practicing with my aau team, instead of the really bad HS team where his girlfriend was a sub mediocre diver. It sucked. I quit that team and started catching up on all the fun I missed the first 3 years of HS 😬
I'm glad you recaptured your fun, but I still hope he dies in a fire. 🤗💃✨🔥🔥🔥
