Firstly, something to keep in mind is that some of them are third or second gen immigrants, and many of them may in fact see themselves more as White than hispanic. Secondly, hispanics are not a monolithic group. They are a myriad mix of many groups... some of which don't like each other.

It varied. Some folks actually saw blacks as better than the Irish. Others saw them as both being trash. I think one thing I recall reading about was that some WASP types were like "at least negroes keep their house clean" whereas Irish were believed to prefer filth.

Oddly enough that's why there's been racial tension between the Irish and Black communities of Boston (spent a summer there). Basically the freed slaves and Irish, who were not considered white ("help wanted, Irish need not apply) were pitted against each other for the worst jobs

It’s actually a pretty well-documented pattern. Established immigrant groups sometimes adopt anti-immigrant views to protect their own status, prove their belonging, or out of competition for resources.

Something to always keep in mind, especially past the first generation, is that at that point, you're not an immigrant, but a native. Even if your ancestors were immigrants, you yourself are not, because you were born HERE, not THERE.
