A lot of formerly liberal people that I know, lost their shit over the vaccines. Somehow the algorithms tied all of the other bullshit to that and here we are living in totally different realities. I guess latent bigotry got a boost when they all saw themselves as victims. It's so f*ing weird.

Had a great aunt who had a career as a teacher (retired by the time I knew her). Sharp mind, very widely read, taught me a lot about thinking critically outside of the classroom, and generally kind and involved in her community. (1/2)

Fast forward and I visit her in her new retirement home. Maybe the fourth sentence out of her was complaining about a muslim being president. Floored me. I prodded but there was no critical thinking about it, just grievance. She passed before Trump's first term, but I shudder to think. (2/2)
