My grandfather once hunted fascists with depth charges. Steel drums plunging into the sea, detonating with a force that ripped hulls apart, imploded lungs, and turned black water red with fragments of men and machines. I wish he was with us today.
When one of my favorite uncle's died i found out that he was awarded the silverstar during WWII, which i had no idea about it because i never heard him speak about his service.
Mine didn't talk about it much either, but I do know that he was pulling sailors out of a burning sea every night for the rest of his life.
My great uncles didn't talk about it much either.... but I did get to hear that one missed going to Japan because in Italy, he got a barracks dropped on his foot while moving it. He was genuinely ashamed he didn't do more.
My grandad didnβt start talking about it until much later. Wish I had listened but I was young and dumb.
They were the Nazi fighters.
My grandpa was a tail gunner in WW2. My grandma's family were tenant cotton farmers in the Dust Bowl, real life Steinbeck stuff. They hated Reagan for trying to undo FDR policies and used to get into massive arguments with their Boomer children over it. I miss them every day.
π
So much these days.
My grandfather was a B-24 mechanic stationed in England. He was also a bully and a racist fuck. Don't miss him a bit.
And I am so grateful they are not here to see this We are the ones now
Yes I want them and miss them so bad, but they would not recognize this world. They would be horrified.
Please help me and my family, we need help. Put yourself in my place. Your children sleep in tears because they are hungry. Help me collect donations so I can buy them food.πππππππ
Iβm actually glad they arenβt here to see this, though.
So true... I think of their wisdom much more than I ever thought I would. Wish I appreciated them more when I was younger
Same here...
The accents. Just incredible accents and so much character layered in. Great stories told in great voices.
ππ Me too.
I do too. They were so solid. I patterned my life after them.
My pawpaw used to tell us stories about the depression all the time. I think the only thing he trusted less than politicians were banks. Cool as a fan.
