This whole thing is utterly baffling to me. I realize “woke” is now basically meaningless, which is sort of the point, but I am completely at a loss as to how the most generic corporate logo imaginable is somehow a symptom of whatever they think “wokeness” is.

I suspect that @jkuznicki.bsky.social is correct in that this started as a handful of fringe weirdos getting mad, which happens all the time but doesn't turn into A Thing, but then Rufo types sniffed the possibility to take down a woman CEO, and so the right-wing elites turned it into A Thing.

It’s not what the new logo is… it’s that it’s not the old one. Something has been taken from them. Dominic Cummings infamously leveraged this sort of resentment, when he came up with the slogan, “Take BACK Control,” for the BREXIT campaign (emphasis mine).

I think the pointlessness is kind of the point. They’re looking to show they can weaponize a mob to take down anyone over anything anytime. It’s to keep corporations/people on pins and needles about crossing them.

I don't think this is the kind of side show that democrats should ignore. They should be calling these people psychotic freaks.
I’m not sure how they can or should respond. But I agree. It’s very dangerous to give into this kind of pointless mobbing. The fact there’s not some good reason behind it makes it worse, not better.

I think their using “the CEO changing an iconic, long-standing logo” as a cover for attacking said CEO for being both pro-LGBT and a woman.

While I don't agree with them, I think their belief conflates two things: (1) The CEO has a history of promoting equity projects. (2) Interpreting the removal of the folksy barrel guy as a slight against folksy rural people and they only know how to interpret bias in terms of wokeness.
It’s simply a stand in for things that evolve/grow/progress now.
