So, when FDR put Japanese Americans into internment camps, that wasn't authoritarian? When he presided over Jim Crow and was super popular with southern whites, that wasn't authoritarian? When FDR violated the constitution, that wasn't authoritarian? Did you skip history class?

And I'm still not sure why we are talking about presidents who are dead and gone when we have an authoritarian in the Whitehouse today. Are you suggesting that because we have had bad leftists in the past we should just let a fascist do his thing? We can't stop FDR, but we can stop Trump.

News flash: Slavery was bad. Jim Crow was bad. Segregation was bad. We're still suffering from what those people inflicted on America. Pretending the past didn't happen or it wasn't that bad is not OK!

A executive (president) executing the laws that Congress passes is not authoritarian... it's representative democracy. If he superceded Congress, or they ceded power to him, and he opened internment camps via executive order it would absolutely be authoritarian.

So you believe that if something is "legal" it's not authoritarian. 🙄

No, I believe in the definition of words: : of, relating to, or favoring a concentration of power in a leader or an elite not constitutionally responsible to the people

Internment of Japanese Americans was thought to be "legal" at the time. I guess you just have a higher tolerance of authoritarianism than I do. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koremat...

Your mistaking wrong/illegal with authoritarian. True democratic communism can still be wrong/illegal. Authoritarianism is about where the power resides... Not what is done with it.

Just to be clear, you think internment of Japanese Americans was authoritarian, right?

No... I think it was cruel and wrong. Authoritarianism is about an individual or small group having power rather than the citizens. No action is, in and of itself, authoritarian. It's contextual. For example, an FBI investigation into a politician may not be, but one ordered by the president is.

So if Trump put US citizens in an internment camp - that WOULDN'T be authoritarian. Fascinating set of standards there.

The act itself is not authoritarian. Words have meanings. Authoritarianism has a definition that I don't think you quite understand. It's not an adjective or adverb. It's a motivation, a set of beliefs, it might guide someone to put citizens in a camp, or it might be the objective of doing so.
