Gerrymandering is really bad for representative democracy. Voters should choose politicians, not the other way around. Gerrymanders mean less choice, less representation, less accountability for politicians – and more polarization. 1/6

Stop voter registration now!
Absolutely 💯👎🤬🤬🤬
This group of monsters is responsible for the building oppression making our streets sick. The drugs crime homelessness school shootings all are because these monsters voting 4 oppressive laws for decades. Making life more difficult. This is the tyrannical regime the founders feared.
Same, my dude: open.substack.com/pub/noelkeit...
You are right, but the only way to get congress to act is to counteract the GoPs actions.
we really should be sure of the math before we discourage retaliation. they could be passed as temporary. the number of eligible votes cast will still determine the outcomes more heavily, but if we have zero odds because of theirs, it's fair play to return volley for serve
Popular vote should rule.. In ALL elections
It also takes away the power of individual votes. Gerrymandering needs to be abolished NOW.
I don't understand why districts are needed in the first place, or at least one-person districts. Make them five person districts (or more) where the top five get to represent it and gerrymandering would get much harder.
Proportional representation!!!
Take back the power then force through legislation to outlaw gerrymandering. Until then, fight dirty, gloves off, get into the dirt with these shitbirds.
For decades, the Republicans have been breaking the rules, and the dems have done nothing but wag their fingers. Some dems are finally fighting fire with fire. "If a golden retriever is dunking on you, you don't argue about the rules. You send in a Pitbull."
I agree its bad. But doing nothing and "hoping" for some positive outcome to work itself out in all of this is not a solution either.
Gerrymandering is stealing. It is the theft of the Democratic process. It is unethical. And that is the heart of the problem. A Government that lacks ethics and morals rots from within. We see it in Trump, his Cabinet, our Congress, and our Supreme Court. Rotten people destroying us from within!
What Texas is doing is particularly egregious. Mid-decade (long after the census), explicitly to gain five Republican seats, at the expense of voters of color, on orders from the president. It’s a power grab, outrageous. 2/6
It’s no surprise that Democrats in other states would respond as they have. But a partisan arms race on its own cannot be the ultimate solution. The answer must be effective national standards that apply to Red states and Blue states alike. 3/6
We need to stop talking about red and blue states! It’s nonsense created by chicanery and gerrymandering and nonstop lazy shorthand by our national media. Ever since 2000 bush v gore. Before that no one talked about Americans being red or blue. Colors identity is used in illiterate populations.
Now, the Supreme Court blew it - in Rucho and LULAC v. Perry, it walked away from policing gerrymandering & protecting voters. 4/6
Congress can and must act. The Freedom to Vote Act banned mid-decade redistricting and barred partisan gerrymanders. It would stop what's happening today – cold. The John Lewis VRAA would restore protection against discriminatory maps. They came achingly close to enactment in 2022. 5/6
And Congress will only act when the Democrats get the majority back, which we can't do without countering the republican gerrymander.
So as we watch with outrage let’s remember: all this makes the hard-nosed case, stronger than ever, for action to ensure real representation and a fair political process for all. 6/6
Gerrymandering blue states to reduce/eliminate fascist politicians is a long term answer to "how to defeat fascism". One thing the fascists get right is that they don't treat Democracy has sacred. Democracy is just an idea, and one that we must bolt other ideas onto to make it work properly.
If that means using gerrymandering to keep a bunch of psychopathic losers away from the levers of government, fine. This is literally the paradox of tolerance. We cannot, must not, tolerate fascists. #EndFascists #EndOligarchs #EndNeoliberals
Until a nationwide solution to end gerrymandering is in force, we cannot unilaterally disarm, we must fight fire with fire. The only way Republicans will agree to end gerrymandering is if they believe they lose as many or more seats than they gain, and we won't win a rigged election by disarming.
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼Unfortunately, due to willful acts of corruption to seize power, disregard for the role of checks & balances in democracy, lack of integrity & support for criminal, lawless actions to seize power, occurring at the head of the gop, there will not be any “agreement on national standards”.
Not to “gain” seats. To steal, manipulate the forced taking of seats by eliminating all voices of dissent, and thereby essentially - FORCE what would be - a one party state on Texans.

Tell Trump
Do away with the electoral college...make gerrymandering a moot point
Gerrymandering should be illegal. One person one vote, most popular in each state represents. Abolish districts and make the people's choices heard. That is the future we want. That is what America needs. Accountability and leadership who works for us. @housedemocrats.bsky.social #freeamerica
That's what they want. They want to represent only the people they like.
Gerrymandering assumes the idiots who endorse corruption, insurrection and child sex trafficking will stay idiots by disinformation.
Gerrymandering as in Illinois, California, New York, and about 10 other Democrat run states?
The best thing we could do is the opposite of gerrymandering: adopt a role that says every district must be as equally split between the parties as possible given the political make up of the state. Suddenly you have 300+ swing districts that are highly responsive to voters.
