I remember the exact moment when I realised the papers are cobblers, and they decide what the story is going to be and write it anyway, regardless of the facts, and it was a headline in the Express about Torvill & Dean - 'In Love And They Don't Even Know It'.

The papers had decided they were a bloody couple, actually, rather they liked it or not, and were quite annoyed they were refusing to play ball. It was obvious even to a small child. As I've got older I've just noticed it get nastier when you won't go along with what they've decided the story is.

I've never forgotten what was surely one of the all time stupid headlines.

I was thinking literally only yesterday they're doing again with Angela Raynor's properties. Never mind that she only technically owns one house and most tory MPs have second homes. They'll make this story works if it kills them.

Just imagining how wild that sort of speculation would get today. I remember them constantly having to explain they weren't (and never were) a couple.

This wasn't speculation, though. This was saying they +were+ in love with each other, no matter what they said, and they needed to be told this.
