Feb. 13, 1988: The Winter Olympics opened in Calgary, Alberta.

At the Olympics, 57 countries are represented by 1,424 athletes. These are the first Winter Olympics held in Canada, and the second Olympics overall. One of the most successful Winter Olympics in history, the facilities built for the Games helped Canada develop into a top nation in Winter Olympics competition.

My kids were too little then to remember much, but I managed to secure tickets to the bobsleds. What a time. Jamaican bobsled team and Eddie the Eagle. Good memories.
