Ken Dryden has died. A Hockey Hall of Famer with the Montreal Canadiens, he won six Stanley Cups, the Conn Smythe, Calder and five Vezinas. A best-selling author, he also served in Parliament from 2004 to 2011.

If you are a hockey fan, all you need to know is that Montreal fans love this guy and mourn his passing. And, that Toronto fans love this guy and mourn his passing. What he did for Canada transcended rivalries. A great player, and an even better and respected politician. Could use more like him.

He was an athlete, a sportsman, and served his community in Canada. Sounds like a very talented, thinking, man. RIP πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

That’s sad news. Growing up in the 70’s he was my favourite player along with LaFleur. If you happened to be in net playing hockey you’d always think you were Ken Dryden.

Growing up in Buffalo I recall when the Dryden brothers would play against each other then shake hands afterwards. www.reddit.com/r/hockey/com...

It’s so sad. I had no idea he was sick. Especially poignant on a day that another amazing Canadiens goalie was β€œtraded”.

I have so many fond memories of Dryden and Bunny Laroque playing goalie for the Habs. I lived in English Canada and while the rest of the family watched the Leafs on Saturday nights, I watched Dryden and his team on French CBC on a tiny b&w TV in the bedroom. Thanks for the memories, Ken.

Rest in peace Ken. As a goalie he was my idol and as a Habs fan, one of my favourite Canadiens. I met him twice at book signings. Canada has lost a great one. Fuck cancer.

Awwwww man. Ken was the first non-Canuck that I admired as a young hockey fan. As I grew older, I realised the class this man had. The Game is a top read, too. Rest easy, sir, thanks for the memories.

What a legacy - athlete, lawyer, gifted writer, politician. I believe he was the only hockey player to win the Conn Smythe trophy the season before he won the Calder.
