Stunning how badly Trump and the Rs have lost the debate on what their reconciliation bill will do. From new CBS/YouGov polling:

Equally frightening is the poverty level for a family of 2 is $20,440 a year and you must make less than 200% of that to qualify for cost-sharing in certain programs or benefits. ($40,880) CHIP, MEDICAID, etc.

Sadly, the only ones the Republicans care about are the wealthy 60% who voted that it will help.

Millie @thatmillie.bsky.social

That’s not what the 60% is. 60% of all respondents believe that the bill would help the wealthy. It could be that every single wealthy person why was asked denied that it would help them, but regular folks know that’s exactly who it would most benefit.

I’ll guess the unbothered* non-voters who are either deeply cynical, uninformed/misinformed, or all of the above The “government always sucks so why bother to try” cohort. “Unbothered” doesn’t mean they won’t complain about what’s happening. Just that they won’t do a damn thing to change it.

Bold to assume there's consensus that "will hurt poor people" is a bad thing. The GOP has morphed from "trickle-down economics will help you eventually" to "let's make the people you don't like suffer." They don't even pretend they're going to help ordinary people anymore. Just hurt the Others.

It’s not a debate when one side lies outright. Trump and the GOP push policies they know will harm people, then rush to pass them before the truth catches up. The goal is simple: inflict damage, deny responsibility, and leave the public to deal with the fallout.
