One reason for Trump's soft approach to Putin seems to be belief that US sanctions pushed Moscow into Beijing's arms. His attempt to be clever, imposing big tariffs on India to get it to buy less Russian oil rather than hitting Russia direct, has now helped pushed Delhi into Beijing's arms as well!

Main Reason was in 1990’s Trump’s businesses (Casinos) went bankrupt! US Banks wouldn’t lend to him BUT Russian oligarchs DID - Putin’s ruling clique! TRUMP 2014 QUOTE “We don’t rely on American banks. We have all the funding we need out of Russia.” ASK YOURSELF WHY NO RUSSIAN SANCTIONS ?

Putin owns him. He has enough dirt on Trump to keep the courts busy for the next 100 years. Very strange that he has been keeping a low profile during this Beijing meeting not like him is it. He is probably sulking because he is not there.
