They have no choice mostly because they need the money. Constitutionally, they do not have to obey an unlawful order. I've seen two videos of guardsmen encouraging others not to follow illegal orders. It's for sure a razor thin tight rope especially with drunk Pete in charger.

I misunderstood. I thought you were suggesting it was optional. If they don't obey, they are subject to consequences but you are correct and it would be great if they would.
