Both of my parents were immigrants. Like other immigrants they came ( mum from Ireland, dad from Australia) for the opportunities America offered. The minute we, for any reason, begin to think of ourselves as ‘better’ than the most impoverished immigrant, we are morally lost

Well, I suspect that this administration’s supporters wouldn’t be nearly as enthusiastic about ICE raids against immigrants from Ireland and Australia - their issue is not so much that they’re non-Americans as that they’re non-whites
I am the son and grandson of immigrants. The American dream used to be for everyone. It should be again. End immigration quotas forever. Mandatory citizenship in two years if you haven’t committed a crime.

I think we're getting a little too comfortable with moral relativism here. One convicted felon doesn't make us morally lost, but a whole system that enables and celebrates corruption might.

America is built by and full of immigrants. Maybe the Indians could still be called Americans, although they have been mostly killed by the immigrants that have built the today America. Immigrants are good mostly, if they understand that the country they've chosen to be part of has rules and laws.
Underestimated in this anti-immigrant frenzy are the skills that many immigrants bring. My grandfather, a German engineer, came to the US to design and build the Panama Canal. He also did work on New York Harbor. Immigration policy is not without its obvious flaws, but it is a net positive.

A few years ago, I did a TV report on immigrants who walked to Europe for MONTHS. They were some of the bravest, smartest, and most impressive people I've ever met. Infinitely more so than those who claim there's no place for them in OUR countries. It blew my mind. We. Are. Not. Better.

My Holocaust Survivor parents brought me to this country after I was born in the DP camp in Germany. I remember sitting on the floor while they attended English classes and citizenship classes. They loved this country.

My mother’s parents were illiterate Italian peasants. Italians were portrayed in the comics as monkeys and were considered stupid. My father’s ancestors were Scottish and Irish - considered to be untrustworthy drunken brawlers. All five of us kids have advanced degrees. People just need a chance.

Around 2.9% of the U.S. population are Native American, which means all the rest of us are here because of our immigrant ancestors. It's so hypocritical of Americans to be anti-immigrant.
We all deserve the same treatment. The same opportunities. I’m hoping someday that here in Canada we have free University and College education. We are losing tons of talent.
I don’t know about that. We have the highest percentage of people with a tertiary education in the world, but we have an incredible shortage of carpenters, plumbers, and electricians.

I moved to BC from Alberta. As long as you aren’t living in Vancouver, overall cost of living is comparable- BC has lower income tax, lower car insurance etc.
