Emmett Till would have been 84 years old today. Seventy years ago, when he was just 14, he was kidnapped, tortured, mutilated and murdered in Mississippi after being accused of whistling at a white woman. Years later, the woman admitted she had lied.

I saw a battered copy of the Jet magazine with his funeral photos when I was about 10 - our live in maid had it stuffed under her bed when I went to retrieve the puppy who had hidden there. Talk about a world changing experience for a small town Texas kid. I have never forgotten.
