Simple answer: if he finds a way to cancel the midterms, we’ve 100% crossed the line.

The proposed bar is too low. Even if the opposition is never overtly punished, if their ability to participate in the democratic process is sufficiently eroded by voter suppression, partisan gerrymandering, and by wielding state power to annoy and frustrate their opposition, that's not democracy.
It’s already happened. (with receipts) www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/america-ti...

We have.
At the last election when Elon got control of electoral vote counts being sent by his own networks to be validated, absolutely corrupted
I think we know
Here is how you will know. When 2 of 3 branches fail to function We are about there. Observing consequences daily, thinking one of those consequences will tell us it's over. It's not the consequences. It's the cause, which is, 2 of 3 branches fail to function. (courts, now hanging by a thread)

There is always a price to pay for criticizing the government. Just ask Edward Snowden or any whistleblower, regardless of who is in charge.
There is, you know, the question of scale. It’s one thing for the government to go after one person (like Edward Snowden) and going after people, universities, companies, institutions and others on a vast scale as the Trump thugs are doing now.
“America’s slide into authoritarianism is reversible. But no one has ever defeated autocracy from the sidelines.”
Well, y e s…
This is the important message to embrace. If we value our democracy, we must all play our part to protect and defend it, whether that be online truth tellers, local protests, defending the rights of non-citizens, or suing the administration in the courts. Find your voice and use it.
Amen, Mary!
Thank you!
The problem won’t fix itself and it won’t go away if you ignore it.
Speaking of Chávez and Maduro, the man who simply declared himself president a few years ago has almost no support among the Venezuelan people. Michael Moore should simply declare himself president of the US. He'd actually get support.
Thank you.
In the land of the free you can now be grabbed off the street by masked men with no warrant, bundled into an unmarked car or van and removed from society. The crime? Being the wrong person in the wrong place at the right time! I'm sure 1930s Berlin wasn't much different.
Sorry but we did it! 77 millions of us!
Sadly, to destroy a democracy is easy and you can do it in just a few months. To become a democracy again is hard work and takes a long time, several years. I’m sitting outside of the US and when I am looking at it I am not seeing a democracy anymore.
We have already lost our democracy.
When the legacy media rolls over and embraces double speak. Oh, right. Too late. Thanks for nothing, @nytimes.com
Elected officials are not going to save us. And not the Democratic party either, in its present form. We need to take over the party the same way the tea party did the Republicans years ago. Everyone who can, should run for office! Community is key. There are more of us than there are of them.
I think we already have.
I don't think we need wonder about it because we are just about there right now. I mean there is quite enough retribution to go around. And It IS going around. The little motor boat we've been tiding to hell in had really picked up speed.
That's pretty hysterical of the New York Times, since they're partly responsible for where we are right now.
