Controlling weapons is about protecting the majority. Their right to safety is bigger than a minorities right to show off with weapons

I’m afraid you’re missing the point. Showing off is not the argument, it’s the right to defend yourself, not waiting for others to defend you. In a decent society it would work but our society is increasingly becoming feral

Weapons are rarely about defense but offense people who carry knives are more likely to get stabbed. The defense us an illusion

In addition, you can’t even carry pepper spray or anything that might help you get away. It’s seen as offensive. It’s why the bias for criminals is not in your favour
