I understand they wanted to explore Maya's connection to native american spirituality, but there had to be a better way to do that than to give her Deus Ex Machina powers at the 11th hour. She was already interesting as a talented fighter, she didn't need this crap.
It's Black Panther all over again. Black Panther had amazing action setpieces in Civil War, where his only powers were athleticism and some neat claws. But for some damn reason they gave him ugly CGI boom boom powers in his own movie, which led to one of the worst final fights in an MCU film.
Joke's on me for watching anything Marvel makes at this point, I guess.
