The Union naval blockade was just as important as Generals Sherman and Grant. It all worked together. Confederacy thought the Union would just roll over.

Lee was also incompetent in the long run. His strategy failed. He first thought he could win in just a few battles, then he invaded Pennsylvania. Nope... Lots of incompetence to go around.
