Despite what Labour are doing, Starmer isn't challenging public misconceptions. Describing these migrants as illegal just panders to those politicians and journalists who continue to make this an issue.

He’s stating the law, are you surprised? The Tories under Sunak passed legislation that boat migrants are illegal. At least, despite that, Starmer & Cooper are processing their claims.

The actual risk of dying in a 'small boat' Channel crossing is around one in a thousand. Possibly seen as an acceptable risk by many.
