Any time I've been denied for anything, I've always called.my insurance & asked to speak to the doctor who made that decision, against the TREATING physician's order. Everything denial has been immediately approved. 🤷♀️
More people need to know this, and do this.
My doctor just tells them that the phone call is being recorded and she's going to provide the copy to my legal team should my condition worsen due to their decision.

Thank goodness we have an NHS. People criticising it should remember if you are low income or on benefits or long term ill your meds are free. If not you pay a limited fee or you can pre pay and save a lot of money. It isn't expensive. It's life saving for so many people.
I returned home to Ireland just over 10 years ago. My dad was ill so I saw, first hand, our health system. I miss the NHS, where everyone is treated equally. Nobody is scared to be unwell. Ireland has a third world health system and those on benefits , with a medical card, are right at the bottom!
So sad when our parents are ill. My mum recently passed but not for want of the NHS, she was 96. I can't imagine the heartbreak of trying to get meds for someone and having to go to a 3rd party. I did help an old tutor a few years ago, sending some pain killers, but he really did need them. ❤️

This happened to me recently. My doc prescribed a weight loss drug and the insurance company denied it.

I am 67yo and I have had Cluster Migraines w/Auras since I was 14. I've tried every thing-Narcotics, Opioids; I had a hep-lock placed in my forearm & #DHE given by IV every 6 hrs for 72 hours. I finally closed my eyes & saw DARK after 18hrs. I'd had a Migraine for 2 Months. I was in an #Imitrex Shot

I read on here that a Dr whose colleague has cancer was prescribed ondansetron for nausea during chemo. They wanted $280 for 30 pills. I recently paid $3 for the same 30 pills last month. So a drug, being used for the same reason for different conditions/diseases gets marked up because it’s cancer?

Did they say why? Every January, my InsCo denies my ongoing important, and costly, med due to the requirement of my Doc to "Re-Authorize it", a separate process from a Refil. It always happens, my Doc always re-authorizes and refils, but it delays my first of year refil. A waste of time in my case

My insurer denied me a different medication that my doctor said may not make me bleed. SS said they were liying to me and they have to give it to me. I never got it.12 hours on the phone. I am still bleeding for the medication I take.

My Medicare Advantage plan pays $175/year for an exam & glasses. My progressive lenses with necessary coatings cost over $400 -- not including the frames. I haven't had new glasses in 5 years. My dentures won't stay in place and Medicare doesn't cover implants to secure them - they're "cosmetic."
What "advantage" plan is that. Let's out them all.
Humana Medicare Advantage PPO. I don't go to the doc often, so it's the best plan for me. It covers more than basic Medicare as far as glasses, and offers some help for hearing aids, but the implants I need to secure my dentures aren't covered for any reason. I can't afford supplemental coverage.
Many can't afford an advantage plan. They don't get any additional benefits, not provided by basic.
My Advantage plan doesn't cost a penny more than basic Medicare. I've had 3 different plans and not one of them charged more. Of course, your health determines whether or not they are a wise choice. I don't see a doc on a regular basis or take pharmaceuticals unless I'm sick, so it's good for me.

My insurance company denied my medication and I fought with them until they grandfathered it in 6 years ago and they will be paying for a 700 monthly for this drug until I am no longer insured by them. Although I too have gotten cheaper meds via cost plus and it helped lots.
I’m sorry you had to go through all that, but glad the outcome was good. I might have to do the same soon myself. My doc has prescribed a med and I am currently waiting for insurance authorization (which may or may not happen-and the cost is several thousand $).

In the UK, the NHS allows some medication free of charge with certain illnesses such as Thyroid. All my meds are free. When you are retired all meds are free. For the overall population there is a fee around £9.90 In Spain is 12€ or so. Children meds are free of charge & OAP pay 10%. Adults 50%
I have to take drugs regularly for adult onset asthma and spent a couple of decades paying for my prescriptions. I got one of those annual season tickets for £114 - I’m grateful that I’ve now become exempt.

Cost Plus Drugs is a lifesaver. My husband has been using Mark Cuban’s company for a few years now.
Now all we need to do is stop paying for illness, and start paying for wellness. That means finding physicians and nurse practitioners that take cash and keep you healthy.

I ran short on pills before my next and last chemo treatment, so my oncologist sent a script to my pharmacy for OTC sodium bicarbonate pills. The pharm charged me $8, which is the price for 60 pills. The script was for four pills.

Honestly, I’ve been skeptical, but I’m seeing enough stories to make me think it takes a rich guy to give the average person access to reasonable prices. If only that were the case in all areas of commerce!

Often it takes more time and resources to deny a claim than to just let a patient get the medicine or the test. It is an organized effort to get you to give up and pay for it yourself as often as possible.
I have been waiting to try out Cost Plus Drugs (@mcuban.bsky.social), but every time I have checked it's not available to me and my insurance yet (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan)
Last year, WellCare took my Advair Disk off their formulary and I would have had to pay $300-400 out of pocket, but Costplus price was 180.00 for 90 day script and my insurance wasn’t on their list either. Download the app and follow the instructions!
Cost Plus Drugs doesn’t accept insurance. That’s the entire point. You pay cash for generic drugs.
You are able to add your insurance to the site. When using your insurance it may cover all or part of your prescriptions, depending on what your plan covers.

No worries! I have a couple medications that even out of pocket on sites that offer highly discounted medication it still costs a bit more than I would like to spend if I can avoid it.
When you go to checkout you can see the out of pocket price. Doesn't you HAVE to use the insurance but if available it could save you more at the checkout.
Their customer service needs to improve though, apparently they switched to a new team handling prescriptions and lost mine twice
