Haven't bought ground beef in ages. I usually buy chicken, pork or just eat eggs and make everything else vegan.

Yep. We were trying to find a home to buy after I graduated from college. Bob still had a couple years to go. We found a nice little starter home but when we looked at financing, interest was at 18% and the down payment was $2000 if I remember right. I was working a min wage job. Couldn’t afford it.

Hi Linda. Back then I had friends that were having a tough time making house payments of $125. My first real job in the early 70's I started at minimum wage making $1.65 an hour. Didn't go too far. I worked that job for a couple years and I think I was 17 for a month and joined the Navy.

Sounds about right We weren’t able to buy a house until 1982. And the owners were going bankrupt. We assumed the payments. I just graduated with a masters degree that finally qualified me for a state job and later a university job. That’s when I finally had benefits like heath insurance.

At times I made great money, but coming up there was dues to pay. Then there was those times where the kids ate dinner and if there was any left over I'd eat. I'm a retired commercial construction superintendent/project manager, but when I was a youngster swinging a hammer, winters could get lean.
