am going to stay on Substack for now because 1) leaving Twitter made a v noticeable dent in my income and I can't afford another one 2) there's no other platform that's currently as easy to use 3) I do seem to pick up new followers merely by being there but UGH, fucking UGH, the modern internet, UGH

Would just like to live my life without my money going to terrible people. I can’t boycott everyone

And then you start thinking "I'm boycotting X but not Y - how do I justify that choice?" And before you know it you've logicked yourself into either going to live in the woods or throwing up your hands, saying "fuck it" and abandoning all attempts at ethical consumption.

You can't feel personally responsible Marie. The world we've inherited is not one of purely personal decisions, our hands are systemically tied

Look, it’s your choice whether to subscribe or not but Marie isn’t THAT bad. She’s only trying to make a living. Bit harsh.

I feel you. I want to leave Substack, but I can’t afford what it would take to transfer my subscribers over to Ghost, and that definitely seems like the best alternative.

It's all just so disheartening!

I’ve got a 20-year-old daughter who does everything possible to make sure I’m on the right page when it comes to knowing what to say, who to support, etc., but when the world’s on fire, you have to do what you have to do to make ends meet. All I can do is try my best.

What where your impressions of @ghost.org when you looked into it as a possible alternative?

This is the best alternative, I think, with complete control, and a handy export tool from Substack if needed

as I said in the original post it's still just that bit too faffy, and a lot less easy to passively pick up new subs just by virtue of being there, which Substack is still annoyingly v good at

Ok, I'll let you off, I was about to reply that posting on Substack is supporting Substack, much like posting on X etc., but you're suffering already...

I know a few who have moved from substack to ghost and are happy, but it was less "press this button" and more "write this new tool"... Also the network effect is a bitch.

I'm not sure what faffy means. Can you elaborate?
