Even at the time they said removing the softcore porn was because the audience for it could get it for free elsewhere. I don’t think putting porn on HBO Max is a good business decision.

I agree. Porn shouldn't be on HBO Max. But something like the Real Sex documentaries, which were adult but not straight-up pornography should be there. A lot of those did talk about mature & frank sexual discussions as well as the cultural and artistic side of sex that's rarely seen in any outlet.

There was a very good documentary on Tubi of all places a month ago that talked about the history of nudity in film from the birth of the film industry to the rise of the #MeToo movement. Would you feel something like that should have a place on HBO Max or should it be buried on some free streamer?

I'm with you there! Your initial thread didn't clearly make the distinction between the softcore porn and the stuff about sex but not necessarily for sexual gratification. It's a disagreement I incorrectly assumed we had.

Ah. I probably should have made that a little more salient. The thing is HBO had decades of documentaries and discussions about that topic. Things like Cathouse, Taxicab Confessions, and Real Sex were a part of the identity of HBO that was stripped out (no pun intended) and ignored.

There is a place for those topics much like the documentaries they air from Investigation Discovery and CNN on the service. HBO once took pride in presenting those kinds of topics without much pushback because they were all quality productions. Heck, some were even on HBO GO/NOW way back when.
