The teenager just went thumbing through my LP’s to find The White Album. Super proud dad here.
The teenager just went thumbing through my LP’s to find The White Album. Super proud dad here.
Number 9 number 9....
Wow! Congrats!
Great album, probably their most diverse, it's got so many different styles, straight up rock, blues, country, avant garde, it's all there.
Would recommend Nick Drake too.
I’ll never forget the moment I discovered my son (then a 6th grader) listening to my Led Zeppelin tapes. (Yes, this was a long time ago).
Touchè 🎶💯👌
Revolver though
Good job, Dad! 😁
🙏
That’s funny. I just did that at a retro store. But I’m 71. 😂
😂
A classic! My main listening decade is '65-'75. If people want to know what really good music sounds like, that's the gold standard of rock...😉
Raising him up right.
The white album IS quite something! Good taste that teen…
Heh. I know the feeling. I felt like a successful parent when my son nicked all my Warren Zevon CDs.
The copy of “The White Album” at my parents’ house has asterisks by the songs we were allowed to listen to.
What songs don't have asterisks?
“Why Don’t We Do It In The Road”, “Everybody’s Got Something To Hide…”, “Revolution #9” (because my dad thought we were playing with the stereo)…
Good Choice!
The Beatles’ music is very childish. We used to sing Yellow Submarine at primary school, and I was genuinely astonished when I later discovered that it was actually pop music made by adults.
I have a friend who has the white album on white vinyl!
ooooooh nice!!!!
When she was 4, our granddaughter would request Boogey Shoes and sing her heart out to Brick House. Both Grandpa and Daddy are rock drummers so we truly and proudly rock it with three generations
That’s wonderful ☺️
here's a song for your kid...still timely. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nS5_...
You taught them well!
As well you should be! I love that some of my kids love the music from the 60’s & 70’s…. The stuff I listened to. Groovy, baby!
Now, that's a moment.
I’ve purchased 5… FIVE copies of Exile on Main Street thanks to my kids. Proud Dad.
LOTTA underrated gems to be had in the White Album! But hey The Beatles are ALWAYS a good choice!!
"You say you want a revolution..."
My 16yo son is obsessed by the Beatles as well, tho he listens to them on fckn Spotify, he also plays BlackBird on Guitar and I want you on bass...
That’s a proper Beatles album
Absolutely
Is he trying to sell it?
you have them in your 70s?
Same teacher when I got to class early I asked everyone to turn our desks around to face the back of the room. He walked in the classroom and went straight to the back to teach class. Didn’t say a word.
Love it! I’ll never forget in 8th grade when my Algebra teacher was singing Rocky Raccoon in class. I’m 62. That was a long time ago. He was a cool teacher.
I had to make sure there was no "debris" in my old gatefolds. Before handing them down.
😂😂
My grandsons all go thru an intensive classic rock education. Oldest came running in one day saying he'd found the "best band ever" The Beach Boys. Asked if I'd heard of them. Told him I grew up on a farm, not under a rock. They all have excellent taste in music.
My teen is binging them since Brian Wilson died. “They don’t get enough credit. They predated the Beatles, Kinks, Doors, Stones…”. I love that they have so much access to music and info. Hasn’t gotten into Beatles yet. That will be interesting.
He's well on his way. My oldest was so moved by Ohio. Took him hours to comprehend just how awful it was. But the music of the 60s/70s had a lot of politics of the day in them. Helps him understand these times.
Good song. Mine loves music from that era. Listens to a lot of Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie. His favorite is Green Day. Lately lots of Rage Against the Machine. I recently came across a website with current songs. www.ongoinghistoryofprotestsongs.com
Watched a documentary about the music & it's impact on society at that time. Very interesting. I joke that there hasn't been any truly good music made since 1979. 🤣🤣
😂😂😂
🤣
🤣👏👏👏👏👏
🤣
Well done , that’s a very successful parenting outcome. ❤️❤️
Ya done good, Dad! The kid has good taste. 😸🦇
My granddaughter refers to the first two CSN/CSNY albums as “granddad music.” I’m cool with it.
As you should be!!
Favorite song?????
She likes While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Winning. Mine found Sade, Stones, Bowie and Beastie Boys albums.
😎
Das racists
They've obviously got taste 👌
I have the Mono version of the White Album, which has some real difference from the stereo version.
I still have my dad’s White Album☺️🙏
Noice
I hear you, a few years ago mi e pulled Dark Side of The Moon.
Nice!!
First album I ever bought
The trouble is that like every generation, he’ll think he’s the first to discover it.
The student surpasses the teacher moment.
You did yourself proud, dad.👏🏻👏🏻
Sounds like a Revolution #9, doesn’t it?
Well done dad!
I have 4 copies if you run out. Some grooves worn heavily. Recommend big headphones
My son agreed to watch Billy Jack with me yesterday, proud mom here 💙 We are amazing parents 😊
Least played Beatles song: Good Night, because we all lifted the needle when Revolution 9 started.
Mine asked to play Koko Taylor in vinyl “because the crisp makes it sound even cooler” Good parenting!!! High five!
Wow 😃
All time classic 👍🏼
Take this album, son; may it serve you well…..
Next up: Back in Black.
My music, mostly 70s prog-type stuff, is way too recent for my son. He's into 20s, 30s and 40s stuff. No idea how that happened!!!!
Among my least favorite Beatles albums, but it IS The Beatles so GO DAD.
That's a goody!!!
My kids (all grown up now) found my Stockhausen collection, pointed their collective fingers at me and said, "This is what you scared us to death with when we were trying to fall asleep." Super proud dad here too.
Now teach him who influenced them.
Who's white album . . . The Beatles?
Of course!!
Ohhh.. Such a badass album.. One of the most eclectic mixes of all of their records.. I think they were pretty high much of the time making that album. 😄 Beatles are the best! ❤️
After your kid has listened to Blackbird, show this YouTube video youtu.be/zPNTNLN4hTA?...
Will do 🙏
That was very funny and a great impression too
He’s got good taste
"Number 9" "Number 9"
My kids love my old music also.
Close to my number 1 all time top ten albums!!! You should be proud!!!
My adult children have most of my CD collection. Pink Floyd and my Grunge collection. My youngest used to slam dance in my belly anytime I heard "Smells like Teen Spirit." My daughter loved my punk collection
Very cool 😎😃
Considering that they're a million of them around, I don't see what the big deal is.
The Beatles are the greatest agents of joy in human history. I don't think it's particularly close.
I so agree! Go through the catalog on a long road trip and you're happy the entire go!
As well you should be😘
I’ll do you one better: In the last two days, my 7 yo daughter in the car has asked me to play John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High” and “Rain On The Scarecrow” by John Cougar Mellencamp.
Felt the same when my son asked to borrow my Houses of the Holy CD.
Love it!!!!!!
Been more impressed with the black album (the damned)
Smell the Glove -Spinal Tap
I'm pleased she wanted to listen to an album rather than just best of on a playlist
Very true 👌
Wonder what they'd make of the 19 mins of side 3?
An acquired taste😎
That's an easy one to spot! My mother threw away my copy of the White Album in the mid-70s. Devil stuff.
😦 oh nooooo
the only downside could be just needing that birthday song for a friend. But I digress. Good on ya with the good music parenting. 👍
Fuck yeah
21 yrs ago, I came home 2 my house SHAKING from music being played so loud. My 14 yo yelled, "OMG. PRINCE IS AMAZING! THIS ALBUM IS AMAZING!" Found my Purple Rain LP; became a true fan then LOL
That’s super 😀
I have that album.
Was it alphabetically filed under "W" or "B" (or "T")?
Oh no I can’t do that I file them according to vibe or era or style
That is correct filing!
😌
(And I'm a librarian)
The correct way to store a large LP collection is to place them in order of date of acquisition, and then keep an index card or Excel file by artist, album title, song title, producer, and other musicians, label, and catalog number.
Nah, you should sort them autobiographically.
Store them in order of notes per album - starting with the fewest notes on the left 🤣
Beatles rule!
*looks down at the Here Comes the Sun t-shirt I'm currently wearing* good choice
Excellent sign of taste. Following their music from the beginning to The White Album, they developed more complex music.
Excellent choice 🤘🏻
One of my earliest memories back in the 80s was being taught the proper way to handle and play LPs. Rubber Soul and the White Album were two of the first.
Good job!
Really? The White Album blows
Hoping for more proud moments.
I have a numbered White Album with real photos of each band member. :)
Very nice 😎
Jealous
Ya done good!
My son hates my records but loves all the vintage I have collected like the Bowie albums. I mean, no one wants to listen to the records I play. I have a cubic meter of classic trance from the 2000s. 😟 I mean. Except me of course.
Some of those trance LP's like Hallucinogen are super expensive now - wish i'd had some money when i was younger XD
I have a lot of Hooj Choons and Platipus! No one wants my rekkids though. There's a layer of sweat, drugs and cigarette smoke on them all.
😂
Now show them The Black Album, The Grey Album, and The Blue Album. The musical rainbow
Totally understand. I love that my daughter loves the Beatles and supports Liverpool football club.
She's being raised right
🙏
Turn them on to XTC next.
Save us from the ball and chain
Yes indeed! I’ve seen that happen in my home as well. My kids were raised on The Beatles and the classics, both popular and classical along with jazz, R&B, blues, and other American traditional genres. Watching my kids take to it is quite a sight!
When I was a teenager my dad was in his 60s and he was into baseball, reading the newspaper and watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights. Thank god for my older brothers and sisters.
My teenager has become a HUGE Beatles fan. He’d probably sell a kidney to see McCartney live.
He better hurry.
"Rocky Raccoon checked into his room only to find Gideon's bible ..".
A life changing album
That is so cool! 💕. I found Kyu Sakamoto's album "Sukiyaki" for a quarter at a thrift store. It's my favorite album to clean house by. The best song is Jimmy Jones' "Good Timing" in Japanese. My millennial son says I have to leave it to him in my will because he likes it now. 😉
Favourite song please? I’d like to tell you my song is something grown up & sensible like, “While my Guitar Gently weeps,” but it might just be, “Why don’t we do it in the road,” ‼️😁😮
She did indeed like WMG weeps! But she knows a few anyway from me playing it and from covers
Love this my son at the age of 10 got me into the Beatles of course I knew them but not how amazing they were
The best Beatles IMO
Now introduce him/her to Abbey Road …
Their best album. Just sayin...😊
It’s awesome; but my personal top 4: A Hard Day’s Night Rubber Soul Revolver Abbey Road Of course everything before and in between is still Excellent.
It's honestly amazing how much good music they recorded in what I feel was a pretty short period of time.
1962-1969 !! 7 short years that included the entirety of the Beatles (as a group; not of course counting the later solo work). Just 7 short, incredible years!!
Yeah and although you can tell it’s still them, there’s such variety
Lock it up. By which I mean if your kid is anything like me I’d take it when I left home. I’ve got my dad’s copy of that album from 68 or 69 with the original portraits of the boys in it. My kids are eyeing my pet sounds album. The wheel turns.
She told me she wants her own record player now - I might have to lock them up 😂😂😂
Not for nothing, but the first time I willingly searched for that album, I was stoned. 😇
Isn’t physical media wonderful? Imagine if your collection was Spotify.
100% this was part of why i was so pleased, she wanted to listen to the whole album not just one of her 200 hr playlists of best ofs
Blackbird is sublime.
You raised them right!
You’ve done well
White album fucking sucks tho
😂🎶🫶🏽
Timeless!
There's a playlist without the less strong tracks, plus the IMO better single version of Revolution. Probably better for anyone not already into TWH. music.youtube.com/playlist?lis...
Here's the counterpart I made with the other tracks: music.youtube.com/playlist?lis...
Congratz. How did you hide from him the existence of Internet and modern tech for so long?
The dream!
☮️ ⭐️🩷
By the way, when my daughter was about 4, she wanted to hear 'the song with the wolves that's about politics'. It took me quite a while to figure out she meant 'London Calling'. That was my proud parent moment. Later she 'borrowed' all my Joy Division and New Order records.
My 18 month old sitting in a high chair demanded “Get Up!” I got him up out of the chair. Still demanded “Get Up!” I was confused. Pointed at the radio “Get Up!!!” It was during the Arab Spring. He wanted to hear Bob Marley! again! again! For. A. Whole. Month. Thankfully a great song.
Did you dadsplain that while it is called 'The Beatles' it's really a pre-solo record for all of them at the same time?
No dadsplaining just happy she wanted to listen to an album not a playlist
Next: Rubber Soul!!!
Oh, yeah. Revolver, Abbey Road.
..aaaaand? Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band!! 🩷
She was pretty attentive but also knows one or two tracks anyway.
Absolutely!!!!
My favorite Beatles album.
I've apparently got more work to do. I just educated mine that George Michael was gay and that Al Yankovic exists. Sigh. I ran through the top couple of artists from each decade and she played a song from each on her phone while we were on a road trip. A lot of "oh I've heard this one!"
Wow very cool!
That teenager has excellent taste!
Great choice!
Congrats on winning parenting
With good reason!!! ❤️ good job dad!!
Mine picked up a vinyl copy of The Wall at a garage sale. :) i've done something right.
Best album ever.
going with my son, 3 daughters their friend and my grandson to see James Taylor's Toronto concert tomorrow
Well done, sir. One of my proudest accomplishments as a dad is getting my 17-yr old into my music. Proud to say I raised a Deadhead and a Zeppelin fanatic. Keep up the good work.
Awesome. I have a 30 year old death metal fan son. The last concert he went crowd surfing. Kids these days .....
shame you should feel deep unremitting shame for listening to an inferior quality recording
I use to have the White album 😩...." Neither a bower or lender be"
My 12 year old just asked me if we had a copy of Led Zeppelin III on vinyl 🎶🎸 ❤️🙏🏻 I hope I still do🧐😬
Zinc Biplane never caught on, I presume
Sweet. Lived on that album in my teens as well.
It's awesome when the young ones are open to different musical genres. We were looking at an old pic of a friend of ours with David Johansen. Our 17 yr. old grand daughter asks who that is in the pic. We said, that's David Johansen. She replies, " I know who he is, who's the other person".
My kid insists on Revolver, but can give you a 15 minute argument on why The Kinks are better. I also love seeing the passion and preservation of this music.
My son loves many genres of music & listened to lots of Pink Floyd, Mozart, the Moody Blues & others in the womb. Shine on You Crazy Diamond is a favorite. My 5 yr old grandson loves Do I wanna Know by The Arctic Monkeys & Silent Lucidity by Queensryche, a song that helped him end his nightmares.
Awww I’m glad that worked. ☺️
number nine, number nine, number nine
Find out why?
Just think how old he thinks you are if he tries ageing you by its release date.
One of the top 10 albums of all time, at least in my book
We share our music my grandchildren and I. One play of Fast Cars and it was added to a play list and Bridges followed. It is a rewarding feeling!
Sadly Etta James was not appreciated! 😭
YAAAAYYYY! Attaboy!!!!!!❤️
Bravo! My 19 year old told me that Darkside of the Moon was mind blowing! 🤯 She knows the words to every Beatles song…AND Elvis. That makes me very proud.
He’s got taste 👅🎶💓🎵😎
It begins.
Good choice! 🤓
Just bought a CD version 💚
That album is still one of my all time favorites stay well and turn up the volume
That’s wonderful
Good choice, must be the parenting. However, calling your daughter "the teenager"? Who's choice was that? Or do you have another one, "the kid" or the "one that moved out"? I like it, helps with not calling the wrong name 😂
I did have a cat named cat once. She was a stray who came to live with us and we didn’t know what her name was and didn’t want to confuse her 🤣
Oh, you are not alone. Our first cat was called whiskey because, well, the color. Then came big cat, little cat, naughty cat and the latest, purry cat. And they listen to their names. Well, when they choose to.
I doubt he meant anything by that. If he’s like me, I don’t put my kids’ names on social media.
Good point. Did not think of that, mine are all grown with their own kids. But it's funny nonetheless.
How does Back in the USSR hit when you’re not familiar with California Girls and Back in the USA? Or remember the Soviet Union? Still quite a rockin tune and the segue into Dear Prudence is fabulous
She likes Dear Prudence because she’s also heard me playing Siouxsie Sioux’s version
Nice! I like Velvet Revolver better, but high marks!
Weezer sure does rock.
Are your LPs sorted by artist, color, or most importantly, autobiographically?
How cool if they find The Black Album next.
She made herself a playlist of about a billion hours long and I’ve heard Nothing Else Matters play out a few times 😎
Kickass!
Yes! Hey Bungalow Bill!
You've done well
I remember the first time I went scouting through my parents' albums as a little kid in the '70s and found Sgt. Pepper. I thought anything with such a fascinating cover would have to be great, and luckily I was right.
So should I expect to see a new listing on Discogs in a short while 🤣🤣
😇
Music with imagination…
Ahh…damn that’s great to hear.
A kid with good taste!
I was just spinning that yesterday
So was I. 😊
I’d be proud if mine found a copy a fucked it in the bin! Runs away very fast…
😂 I’m gonna take a wild guess here that maybe you don’t like The Beatles 🤔🤣
I remember browsing through my Dads LPs as a teen, and discovering that he was a very early metalhead. He didn't even know it, back then they didn't have a word for it - they just called it concrete rock, which y'know, fits. Was a nice bonding experience talking about Deep Purple, Sabbath and such ❤️
Give him the headphones
Raisin' a good-un
Yes, because liking exactly what you like is what's important here.
A very early memory for me as on it's release I was around 22 months old. My eldest bro still has his original copy & it's battered & bruised! Not saying it's their best, but it's my favourite album by the fabs & my fav of all time. The super deluxe is a great few hrs listen✌️
Because as boomers we suck you know.
Love that album. Wore mine out years ago.
My mother threw mine out along with many other important vinyls from that era. Lesson in ‘don’t leave home without them!’
😩 oh no that’s awful
Exactly. I still have mine and many 45's. Unfortunately, I do not have a record player.
The Beatles best!
