Blue state Govs (hopefully including Virginia after November) need to coordinate efforts & make a concerted pushback. Piecemeal resistance will not ultimately protect residents to the extent needed. IMO @governorwalz.mn.gov is the perfect Gov to lead that effort, but someone needs to step up.
There’s an established organization they can use for coordination. People have talked about there needing to be a “shadow government” to provide a unified response. Democratic Governors o represent the best stable with standing to do just that.

The inflo from CA is mostly from corporate and personal taxes. I cannot find the figures, but the $700Byn figure is for the total and not for just the monies that CA govt. itself sends to the Feds. That latter is the only amounts that CA could withhold.

Um. I don't think states holding back federal taxes is actually possible. If someone actually KNOWS better, please say so. When someone says "California pays $x in federal taxes", it means "people (& corps) in CA pay $x in federal taxes". As far as I can tell, state govts aren't part of the process
I haven't been able to find out for sure. The actual logistics of how federal tax revenues get to the federal government might be something a tax accountant would know?

If he does not, Govener NEWSOM should withhold that EXACT amount of money that the state would normally send the Federal government, and use it for what he needs to do just that!
