At least 10 gun industry businesses, including Glock, Smith & Wesson, Remington and Mossberg, secretly handed over names, addresses and other data to lobbyists, who used the details to rally firearm owners to elect pro-gun politicians. By @coreygjohnson.bsky.social (Published Oct. 2024)

all that needs to be done is a psychological background check before a sale of a firearm is granted. purchasers get the background check done and present it to the seller. and i don’t mean just a quickie. i mean a thorough psychological check. that eliminates recreational sales.

Big data is big business. Banks share our data with each other on a regular basis. Other companies package what they collect and sell it. Every time you sign up for some shit online, you’re giving away a piece of your PII, and brokers sell it to any rando for only a few beans. Gun co.’s are evil.

Speaking of gun manufacturers, I would love to learn the specific model & manufacturer of every assault weapon used when reporting a mass shooting. Let’s start connecting the dots to who’s making a profit off of these murders.

sep 2, 2025, 3:30 am • 9 3 • view
avatar
PBR Streetgang @hahnyock.bsky.social

Handguns are used in almost 80% of mass casualty events. An AR is no more deadly than a similar semi automatic hunting rifle. Both are powerful firearms. In many cases the internals are identical. The issue is much more nuanced than “assault weapons”.

sep 2, 2025, 6:17 am • 2 0 • view
avatar
Melissa A. @drmelalexa.bsky.social

There obviously are cultural symbols in the pro-mass violence group. What makes it difficult is that manufacturers of the fetishized weapons likely also manufacture hunting weapons. But I think there are some manufacturers that exist purely to amplify violence and they shouldn’t have a place here

sep 2, 2025, 4:09 am • 0 0 • view
avatar
DianeDonati.com @pa-painter.bsky.social

Personally, I don’t care if they make hunting weapons. There is no excuse for the assault weapons being sold to a civilian population. People need to be aware of them, especially since they can’t be sued. - maybe they can be shamed.

From the article: “This is super troubling. You shouldn’t take people’s data without them knowing what you’re doing with it — and give it or sell it to others. It is the customer’s information, not the company’s.” I get it, but isn’t this what’s been happening pretty much everywhere for decades ?

Not how it works. The local dealer, state and feds are the involved entities. The manufacturer or distributor have no idea who buys the firearm once it ships to the dealer. Manufacturers only get the info when the owners register the warranty.
