$5,000 is nothing if you are unlucky and the baby has health problems or disability that may or may not be lifelong. Choosing between house payments or paying for the child’s healthcare needs destroys marriages and families.

My own experience. One medicine cost $7,000 per month for years which was far more than the current salary. $5,000 would have been useless.

In a case like that, yes ... I can't imagine being in that kind of scenario ... even in Canada, not everything is covered, eh ...

The doctor did work out some sort of deal with the manufacturer when we couldn’t afford it so my child basically had guinea pig status but other associated expenses did cause us to lose house we had been buying. It took years to recover financially.
