I like how Democrats claim that because January 6th happened, we have to accept other crimes. I feel like a more serious argument would be grounded in a belief that crime is bad. But that would imply that Trump is directionally correct about something, which is unacceptable. So you're stuck.

Democrats are not claiming that. Democrats do believe crime is bad, you’ve just gobbled up the propaganda that Republicans care more about law and order because they’re willing to dole out harsher punishment for crime. You sound like the typical “I don’t like either party” voter

The argument being made isn't "Crime has been horrible in Washington DC for decades so let's work to make it better". And I'm firmly a Republican. They're a lot better at governing and are less online.

The argument being made is crime in DC has been on a downward trend and the current policies are working. But Republicans love a good anecdote to get them all riled up. We had 2 shootings in my Republican city this week - no national guard tho. Less online? Have you seen the DHS Twitter account?

Washington DC has an extraordinarily high murder rate and is slightly down from its 2013 peak. I'm not sure what policies you're referencing but typically the way to stop crime is to arrest criminals and get them off the streets. This isn't particularly earth-shattering.
