In the Federalist Papers, they discussed having a militia to defend against a tyrannical federal government.

Haven't read the Federalist Papers. It's still on the reading list.

It is quite interesting. The gun discussion was that states should have militias equipped as well as the federal government to protect against federal tyranny. No mention of a personal right to own guns.
