No, the Supreme Court hasn’t backed this change. The IRS wants to carve out an exception but only within the context of one legal settlement in Texas. Until there’s a court judgment or Congress passes new legislation, the Johnson Amendment officially remains in place. I hope this helps.

I feel the cons outweigh the pros. Many of the mainline Protestant congregations who could do this already have congregations with large swaths of Republicans, and many are insistent on keeping that nonpartisan stance as to keep them in pews. I’d like to hear more of the pros and cons here though.
