Boy I hate to admit this but I do agree there was a job left half done when the civil war ended and reconstruction began. Lincoln might have done a better job at healing the nation's soul but we will never know. Slavery was abolished yes, but the culture and oppression remain.

Reconstruction was halted. We need to deconfederize the south and other parts of the country like the western allies attempted to denazify the Germans. Better though because the denazification didn’t work either as the attention moved over to the Soviet Union and the threat of communism.

I beg you to go back and re-read honest history. No one won the Civil War, yes the North was declared victorious but there were no winners. Slavery, discrimination, segregation, abuse, racism still existed after the end of the civil war.
It took almost 100 years for Martin Luther King to make his speech to over 200,000 freedom fighters, civil rights people, in the American people. We now have a government that firmly believes the only white men, and I do mean men should rule the world. This country is now set up for dictator.

The civil war should not have ended until the entire south was a burning hole in the ground with not a single surviving soldier, politician, or landowner remaining.
Please believe me when I tell you that it wasn’t the generation that fought romancing the Confederacy, they surrendered, it’s their grandchildren on up. Right now I’m arguing with young Brits about the US role in WWII. They have a skewed narcissistic view. It’s a common phenomenon.

We should have left the south as a province and not allowed them back into the Union. There was a vocal minority in the north calling for this and they were right. The south is dragging this country down..again..

The entire confederate armed forces should have been executed. Not just their politicians and generals, but the entirety of the rank and file. Treason is treason. Lincoln got what he deserved for saying “with malice toward none.” With malice toward none meant with justice for none.
