Given that Maga-US under Trump is ever more unpredictable and unreliable, it is actually becoming more and more realistic. Apart from that, it makes sense!
Are you aware of how little the EU is able to agree on things in recent years? Especially with Hungary or soon Poland? Wishful thinking; unrealistic in practical terms, unfortunately.
What is that compared to an unreliable NATO and US? You're obviously not realising where the real disagreements lie!
Don’t get me wrong; I am all in what you wrote in the initial post; I just don’t see it will happen in this way. I assume also interference will come from the big money, which will make EU partners hesitate to join in to give up power. Look at Ireland and big tech money in the past.
Start with the borders, though. Make them humane but firm. And put it in the constitution of every nation and Europe itself that it's armed forces may never be used against its own citizens. Use the chance to learn from the mistakes of the founding fathers.
US constitution has that too. When the enemy makes a coup tRUmp-style they don't care about the law at all.
All countries should be independent. All countries need to have a strong voting system in place. All countries need to help each other.
