I’m so looking forward to this episode. Star Trek: The Animated Series was one of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons. It had creative stories, intelligent dialogue, and exhilarating action. The animation allowed for more creative visuals, free from the limitations of live-action special effects.

Also during this show, I stop giving detailed Trek history to direct the listeners to “The 50 Year Mission” by @markaaltman.bsky.social. I didn’t have two hours to give a full picture, but Mark’s oral history fills in all the blanks. Highly recommended!

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve been reading the “These are the Voyages” series of books by Marc Cushman. I’ll definitely checkout “The 50 Year Mission.”

Cushman is also great, very detailed. I might have recommended him on my Trek ep as well. Shhh… don’t tell @markaaltman.bsky.social 😀

I like the cover art of your Star Trek Podcast Episode. Did you design it yourself? Could you post the artwork here? I would like to get a closer look.

Here is some of the 70s SMP artwork. To answer your question, I put it together. I worked with a 70s color palette to capture the colors, and tried to pick fonts that at least channeled the feel of the era. The background rainbow, I believe, was found on the internet

Why? I like the Cushman books and never understood the unfathomable vitriol towards them. In fact, I believe I'm even quoted about how good they are overall. Totally different books than ours which are all additive.

I have no hatred of Cushman. I was making a half-ass joke about cheating on you with another Trek historian. I had no idea others maligned Cushman.

I was just joking. Your work is generally my go-to to recommend to fans looking for Trek history. You and Whitfield. “50 Year Mission” is a lot more accessible than the 1000 page Cushman books. I go to Cushman if I want the detailed history of one episode.

And it was mostly written by TOS writers, and some of the better animation writers, like Chuck Melville and Len Janson. Good show!
