Who will offer people a vote unless they pay a fee to have one, and why would they? It's essentially the same question.

No. A vote is cheap (you need a paper, and per n votes a booth, a few staf members, and a few seconds to count your vote), and exactly similar. Easily covered by a rich society. A house otoh is expensive and always different, as a the location, a very important part of the value, can never be copied

Well, opinions can vary. So... healthcare is free at the point of use in the UK. It's also expensive. But I'm sure you can explain that away as well. It's easy when you think you already know everything isn't it?

I have to admit that the NHS is quite impressive and though indeed expensive, quite efficiënt. Having said that, there is a significant difference in the allocation. People by and large consume not more healthcare than they need to be healthy. A house otoh is something you not just need, but.....

Not only something you need, but also something you consume for fun. Person a values a bigger house, person b maybe a house in the center of a the city, the third one prefers a large garden and the 4th doesnt care as long as it is cheap. How do you allocate the existing housing stock without prices?

You need to widen the scope of what you imagine to be possible.
