here's the scary thought - what if these numbers DON'T represent the people RIF'd from the government and once the federal numbers come into play it is MUCH MUCH worse.

I think it will be. Our organization hasn’t started a RIF yet, but quite a few people took the DRP or jumped to contractor positions and left federal service.

Also, I suspect the slowdown of spending by all federal employees will have some impact. You're not going to buy anything big if you might get fired in two weeks.
