These PACs--including Hogg's--raise MILLIONS and then piss away huge chunks of it on "consultants" and to buy OUR email & phone info which they then spam the shit out of all of us with to the point we're sick of it. Only a fraction ends up going to campaigns to ELECT DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES.

“Only a fraction” Yeah, anything less than 100% is a fraction.

That's what starting a PAC from scratch with no experience looks like It takes hard work, expert advice, and initial investment That's not "pissing away" anything it's building an effective organization to do crazy things like "find members" and "raise funds" in the future

Then how did I managed to raise more than he has without a PAC, without sending a single text without sending a single email and without paying a single consultant, including myself?

P.S. Donating directly to a candidate is also paying for texts, emails, and consultants You're just letting their campaign do that for you

No idea! But if you can raise it and you know how to spend it yourself effectively then good for you! I look forward to seeing your impact for good, and hope you aren't like the vast majority of those who raise funds which ineffectually waste them instead of building lasting power and influence

And AGAIN, I'VE PROVEN THAT YOU DON'T NEED EXPENSIVE CONSULTANTS to raise a lot of money for candidates! Once again: Last cycle I raised $13.5 million (13% more than LWD PAC!) and 96% went directly to the candidates! (the other ~4% went to ActBlue cc processing fees). Blue26.org

Of course, I'm not a PAC, nor do I make a living at this (the only "pay" I get is that occasionally someone chips in a few bucks via the tip page as a thank you for my efforts, but that's separate from their candidate donation). I realize that running a PAC has real legal/accounting expenses, etc.

Perhaps I'm being naive, and ~10% in "legitimate" overhead is too low for a PAC. I just find it very difficult to believe that ~70% is reasonable, that's all. And with that, I'll stop.

The biggest and most effective Republican PAC raised $145 million and 12%(18m) went to contributions, for perspective But that's just not an important metric Most of the largest Dem PACs, for example, give literally 0% in candidate contributions

UPDATE: Some are accusing me of singling out LWD because Im clearly not a fan of Hogg’s actions. While I did a similar breakout for 2 other PACs last year run by people I’ve never heard of as well, this is a fair criticism... (Continued)

If you look at the 1st qtr FEEC filing it shows the actual pay bi-weekly payroll. He brings home $10,500 monthly. The payroll tax line is really hinky. Unless I audit his actual books I have no clue why it would be so wacky.

…therefore, to be fair, next week I promise to run a similar analysis of a PAC run by someone I admire quite a bit (I’ll have to look & see what’s available). It’ll be interesting to see whether the breakout is similar or not.

Good work! This is why i ALWAYS contribute directly to candidates of my choice. I don’t need a PAC, a party machine, or a slug of lawyers and consultants to figure it out for me.

Jon Eisenberg 🇺🇦🪧 @jon-eisenberg.bsky.social

PS: even when we give directly 2 candidates, they have to hire lawyers, accountants and consultants too. So let’s say optimistically they spend 50% on political advtg., travel, etc. That means if only 25% of your PAC dollars go to candidates, only 1/2 of that for 12.5% goes for actual campaigning.

Agreed. You are an amazing unicorn, can’t (and don’t) expect others to meet your crazy low overhead. But/and, if at least 70% (at least) is not going to “the cause” it’s a scam. Only 30%?? Folks, donate thru @charlesgaba.com !!!
