2. The MCU should have stopped at Endgame. Yes, I know that some of the Phase 4 & 5 films have been good, but even so, they had an extraordinary string of luck & should've quit while they were ahead.

Have you seen Fantastic Four?
Yep. It was good, and they seem to be getting their groove back, but I stand by my assessment. That could’ve been a standalone film anyway.
I’ve always liked the Netflix (& now Disney) Defender series. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Daredevil, & Iron Fist. Not so much the Punisher, but so never liked him in the comics either.
I’d probably have stopped it even before that but yes definitely.
3. Instead of remaking successful movies, Hollywood should only remake films which had a great story but which failed the first time due purely to bad casting, timing, marketing etc. Yes, I know opinions will vary about what those movies are, but still.
True Grit, for example.
Really like this one! Has it been done before? What would be your first choice for this type of remake?
In Time. It was actually financially successful but critically panned. From the writer/director of Gattaca. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Time
I feel like there are many SciFi movies that could be in the category. Especially those that were made for the SciFi channel. Some of those were *so bad* but could have been pretty awesome. Most of the time it was the acting.
Always thought this. The Other would be good to remake. I think nobody but me ever saw it. Movies that had good stories but outdated special effects could qualify too
4. St. Elsewhere was the greatest hospital drama series ever produced with an endless list of jaw-dropping cameos of both past & future movie/TV stars...yet also included some storylines which were handled incredibly ham-handedly in retrospect.
I love and respect you, my friend, but when it comes to a hospital TV series, Scrubs was 10 times better.
OK, but I specified "drama" while Scrubs was more of a comedy. Does that work?
Scrubs had a lot dramatic (even a few heartbreaking) moments. But, I'll spot you St. Elsewhere as more of a drama. And also there's Denzel and Alfre.
The fact that Denzel Washington and Howie Mandel had equal billing for 6 years constantly amazes me.
This right here is the type of discourse we all need these days 🤔
This is the most on point observation I've read in quute some time
Not just my own, I'm sure 😉
They should have killed off Peter much quicker.
This is a hard one for me. Ham-handed, indeed, and I absolutely love St. Elsewhere. But, Mandy Patinkin’s musical moments scattered throughout Chicago Hope make it hard to beat, for me.
I think The Pitt now has them all beat.
5. As much as I absolutely love Die Hard and as perfect as it is, I'd also love to see an alternate version which sticks more closely to the novel (originally titled "Nothing Lasts Forever"). If you've read it, you know everything I'm talking about. Yes, even the ending.
Blindfolded, 95% of "Vinyl Apprecianados" could tell the difference between vinyl and CDs or streaming
6. Every suburban subdivision should have sidewalks. In fact, there should be a requirement that all new road construction should include sidewalks on at least one side.
Every new development, commercial, residential, industrial, all should have sidewalks.
7. Crash (2004) was a terrible, awful, insulting film. It was so bad it makes Crash (1996) seem fantastic by comparison, and that was about people who have a sexual fetish about automobile accidents.
And Crash stole Brokeback Mountain's Oscar for Best Picture.
Thank you.
I watched it. That's all I'll say about it.
Giving that movie Best Picture over Brokeback Mountain was literally the last time I ever attended an Oscar Watch party, or watched the Oscars at all (after decades of attending and watching faithfully). The Oscars have been dead to me ever since
I don't blame you one iota, friend.
They were dead to me when Denzel didn’t get Best Actor for Malcolm X. Actually they were dead to me when Goodfellas didn’t get Best Picture over that steaming pile of shit Dances With Wolves.
I had to look up who won Best Actor that year . . . Al Pacino for "Scent of a Woman"?? Yeesh.
I'm embarrassed by how much I liked DWW when it came out, simply because it made the Lakota the focus of sympathy, and I hated traditional Westerns for upholding the white guys. Now I recognize the tropes and Costner's bad acting . . ::cringes::
Or when "The Color Purple" lost to that colonialist piece of crap "Out Of Africa."
Out of Africa's biggest sin wasn't being colonialist, it was that it was boring as hell.
I didn't hate DWW, but I absolutely agree Goodfellas should've won.
It was definitely the superior film.
I stopped after the one where they gave all the awards to the worst movie of its year, The English Patient. But I understand that. Academy often puts up terrible, horrible, rotten movies as "Best Picture."
8. "Before Sunrise" is overrated. I had heard so much hype about it that I was sorely disappointed when I actually watched it. It wasn't bad, just not amazing. I'm impressed that Linklater, Hawke & Delpy had enough dedication for the 18 years it would take to complete the trilogy, however.
BS.. Before sunrise Before sunset Before midnight It’s about taking a chance as a young person, I moved from Nyc to LA, and if you are someone who never left your hometown, this movie will not resonate with you Because you never took a chance
I didn't say it didn't resonate with me. I liked it. I just didn't *love* it. Honestly, I thought it would've been better/more powerful if they hadn't actually slept together (never shown but heavily implied).
Opinion Rating: Bad opinion.
I feel like that series resonates with people who've had a similar experience or a 'one that got away', and bores everyone else to tears. I loved it, but I get why people might not.
The most boring movie ever
Nah...that'd be either "Shining Through" with Michael Douglas & Melanie Griffith or "The English Patient." www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5qa...
Never saw either. You’re not selling them. 😉
9. I don't know if it's the most *beautiful* place in the world, but the most *serene* place I've ever been to is the shores of Lake Windermere in Cumbria, England. It's also the home of the Beatrix Potter Museum, FWIW.
The movie is about taking a chance with love
Destiny of the Republic is one of the greatest books of all time.
10. Romano Cheese > Parmesan Cheese It's less expensive (at least for us) and just tastes better.
OH MY GOD YES!
Agree
July 3rd is the best day of the year to have your birthday.
11. I'll take a good cheeseburger over the finest filet mignon any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Erm.....no, thank you. I'll take the filet, medium rare, please.
I agree--but right now I'd kill for a slab of rare prime rib.
12. "Casualties of War" is one of the most powerful & disturbing war films ever made even if it includes unnecessary bookend scenes and an unnecessary speech. It also features Michael J. Fox's best performance and Sean Penn at his most intimidating.
Plus they are a perfect meal with protein, dairy, salad and carbs.
There's more than one of us! I like steak but it has to be best of the best for me to prefer it to a good burger.
It really does doesn’t it? Although I do enjoy blending them.
Grana Padano too!
+1000 to this - and the rest of the Lake District
Omfg 🥰🥰🥰💖💖💖
Thank you
And every new home and remodel should have foot pedals on all sinks to reduce water usage.
Really wide sidewalks.
This is great. As a professional urban planner, this is a pretty damn political opinion (at a local level). 😀
But the big question is... would you have cast Sinatra?
Cameo perhaps?
Have to be the lead. He'd already played the character and had first refusal rights. I'm not saying it would have made for a good movie, but it would have been worth it to hear "doo-be-doo-be-doo, motherfucker!"
I agree up until the last season when the hospital rapist thing kind of took over the whole storyline.
That storyline was actually much earlier...season 2 or 3 I believe.
it seemed like it went on forever. Of course this was years ago and my memory is not what it was. 😉 I am surprised one of the many "Oldies" cable networks is not showing this.
I'm watching The Pitt on HBO. It's fabulous.
St. Elsewhere was good, but ER was better.
I partly agree, but I also think remaking a successful movie that has a very different approach can be worthwhile. The 50's The Thing From Another World and the 80's The Thing are both very good movies that are very different.
Battlefield Earth.
ummmmmmmm...
The book was fine. But the movie, partially because of the lack of capabilities to recreate the alien races, and partially because of the actors chosen - was such a colossal failure that it was almost considered a parody.
This is totally the correct take.
