The short version: New Mexico announced that they'll be backfilling 100% of the lost *federal* ACA subsidies with *state* subsidies...but only for enrollees who earn up to 400% FPL. This is still a HUGE deal because 85% of NM #ACA enrollees earn less than 400% FPL.

On the left are what the 2026 #ACA net rate hikes would look like in New Mexico if the state wasn't backfilling the lost subsidies. On the right is what it'll look like *with* NM coming to the rescue for most enrollees. ~15% of enrollees are still screwed, but 85% can breath a sigh of relief.

So far 2 other states have announced plans to mitigate at least some of the lost federal subsidies: CALIFORNIA is retooling their existing state subsidy program to fill in around 9% of the missing federal funding: acasignups.net/25/08/28/cal...

There's several other states w/supplemental ACA subsidy programs which may be able to mitigate a fraction of the lost federal funding, including Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Vermont & Washington. Minnesota, New York & Oregon have BHP programs; the impact on those is unclear.
